Badges
Earning badges is a big part of being a Beaver. We aim for children to earn 2-3 badges per month as these challenges teach new skills, inspire creative learning and instil pride in wearing them on their sleeve.
There are dozens of badges to earn in many different fields. These include themes such as Building, Photography, Hobbies, Health and Fitness, Camping... and many others!
Badges are earned through weekly activities in our meetings and optional challenges to complete at home. These are fun, interactive projects which aim to encourage writing, imagination and creative learning.
Beaver Meetings
We meet on Thursday evenings from 4.45 until 6pm at Methodist church, Kennington Avenue.
When we are ready to begin, all the Beavers get into a large circle and we take the register.
After this the leader will say ‘Beavers, build a dam’. The Beavers all link hands and take steps into the middle, spelling out ‘H-E-L-L-O’ with each step and saying ‘HELLO’ before moving back to the outer circle where they find out what will be happening that evening. At the end of the meeting, the Beavers get into a circle where any notices or badges will be given out.
They then crouch down and sing (very loudly...)
‘Who are we?
We are the beavers can’t you see?
B-E-A-V-E-R-S BEAVERS!’
On shouting BEAVERS! they jump up and then straight back down to sit on the floor ready to be called to go home.
Programme:
We run a varied programme of fun activities, including games, badge work, walks to the woods, craft activities, local visits, and camping. We also participate in District activities such as parades and special Beaver events.
Our leaders are all volunteers who give up their own time free of charge. We sometimes ask for parental help as we need three adults for indoor sessions and six if we go outside. Assisting our group is fulfilling, rewarding and a lot of fun! Please do get in touch if you would like to get involved.
