You’re probably asking yourself a bunch of questions. If you don’t see your answers here, feel free to email me.
How much does this cost?
This is a service created to help organizations and aspiring authors who care about protecting the natural world. When your project is complete, if you'd like to send along a contribution to keep things going, that's fine, but not necessary. The object is to help as many nature-focused authors and organizations as possible. The more of us there are, the farther and wider our messages will travel.
What kinds of things can I get help with?
I think the toughest things I’ve had to deal with are “formatting issues” – things like page layout, margins, line spacing, etc. I’m also aware of how important cover design and layout are. People may not judge a book by its cover, but they certainly are attracted to ones that have an interesting and appealing one. Working with images, fonts, layout, etc. can be quite daunting, until you learn the software. But if you need help with something else, just let me know. We are actively seeking others to join the team, especially those with talents in the area of book promotion, so please contact me if you'd like to help.
Isn’t it expensive to publish a book?
It can be, but it doesn’t have to be. If you can do the writing, the author’s part, others can help with editing, formatting, design etc. Most of my books are published on Amazon. There is no “up front” charge to publish your book on Amazon. They take their part from the sale of a book once it’s been ordered. This is also great because their books are “Print On Demand” (POD), which means books are not printed ahead of time taking up storage space. They also print from multiple facilities around the world. I’ve found their printing quality and shipping speed to be very good.
What program should I use to write my book?
Unless it’s a children’s book with lots of images, I recommend using Word (.doc or .docx).
Will you do spelling and grammar checking for me?
Today there are lots of ways you can check these issues using your computer and the internet. And, of course, there are always friends or colleagues you could ask who might even be flattered you asked. It would also be a way of getting the word out that you’re writing a book.
