Jeffas- Capstone Project

You have now mastered the 3rd grade fractions unit. To show that you are a true fractions master, you will need to complete the Pizza Fractions Project.

Pizza Box

Directions:

You will receive a pizza box where you will design a pizza, fraction style! The pizza project contains 3 parts, one for the top of the pizza box, one for the bottom, and your presentation of your project.

Time to create your pizza!!!!!

The Pizza

You need to make a pizza by drawing it, or by making it out of pieces of paper or other materials (clay, play dough, styrofoam, cardboard, etc.). These materials will be used to make the pizza and it's toppings.

Your pizza should be divided into 4 or more equal pieces.

You should represent 4 to 6 different fractions using different toppings for your pizza. (For example, 1/4 of the pizza has pepperoni, 1/2 of the pizza has mushrooms, 3/6 of the pizza has cheese.)

You need to show at least one pair of equivalent fractions represented on your pizza.

Your pizza must be colorful and your toppings need to stand out on the pizza.

The Inside Top

On the inside top of your pizza box, you need to include:

A "key" that represents each one of the different fractions of your pizza and the toppings that are included in those fractions. (For example, 1/4 of the pizza has pepperoni, 1/2 of the pizza has mushrooms, 3/6 of the pizza has cheese.)

Show and label your equivalent fractions.

Compare two fractional toppings (ex. 1/2 > 1/3, 2/4 = 1/2, 2/3 < 6/6)

Create one word problem using the fractions of your pizza for others to solve. (Do not write the answer on the inside of the pizza box.)

Presentation

You will present your fraction pizza to the class.

You can create a video presentation or a Google Slides presentation.

Your presentation should include all of the information about your pizza including your key, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, toppings used, and your word problem.

BE CREATIVE AND HAVE FUN!!!!!

Grading Rubric:

This project will count as two math grades.

The pizza should be divided into 4 or more equal pieces. (20 points)

The pizza should include 4 to 6 different fractions using different toppings for your pizza. (20 points)

The project is colorful and neat. (10 points)

Your project includes a key representing each of the different fractions for your pizza and the toppings. (10 points)

Your project has at least one set of equivalent fractions labeled. (5 points)

Your project shows the comparing of two fractions represented in your project. (5 points)

Your presentation includes all of the information about your pizza including your key, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, toppings used, and your word problem. (20 points)

Your presentation is clear and easy to follow. (10 points)
