3DMark Time Spy is a DirectX 12 benchmark test for Windows 10 gaming PCs. Time Spy is one of the first DirectX 12 apps to be built the right way from the ground up to fully realize the performance gains that the new API offers.

With its pure DirectX 12 engine, which supports new API features like asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading, Time Spy is the ideal test for benchmarking the latest graphics cards.

There is no current version of 3DMark for Linux, even though they DO have OpenGL benchmarks (Ice Storm (which has an Android version) and a downgraded version of Cloud Gate called Slingshot). Both are quite light and are not that great for testing PC gaming hardware (I get ~300 fps on a gaming notebook from 2011 when running Ice Storm on Windows).

Would you please increase the RAM to 4GB and see if it helps? Per 3DMark, the benchmark needs at least 2GB system memory to run, however, the virtual graphical device also consumes some system memory as the video memory, so it might run out of memory if there is totally 2GB RAM assigned to VM.

Hey guys, does anyone know how to get 3dmark 99 working on windows xp?

I have tried the compatability to windows 98/me, it does not launch but there is an active process for it.

I have looked around alot of forums and people are talking about how this version does not work on XP but there is a fix to download but all of the links are now dead. i possibly found the fix but after applying said "fix" when trying to start 3d mark it says to use a 3d accelerator that is capable of using textures, this is while i have a hd 3870 in the system and latest drivers for xp. I havent tested another card yet as its 3:15 am and im going to bed.


I want to run the benchmark on XP as i see everyone else uses it.


Any help would be greatly appreciated

This section deals with a couple of UL Futuremark benchmarks - PCMark 10 and 3DMark. While PCMark evaluates the system as a whole, 3DMark focuses on the graphics capabilities with emphasis on gaming workloads.

UL's PCMark 10 evaluates computing systems for various usage scenarios (generic / essential tasks such as web browsing and starting up applications, productivity tasks such as editing spreadsheets and documents, gaming, and digital content creation). We benchmarked select PCs with the PCMark 10 Extended profile and recorded the scores for various scenarios. These scores are heavily influenced by the CPU and GPU in the system, though the RAM and storage device also play a part. The power plan was set to Balanced for all the PCs while processing the PCMark 10 benchmark.

This workload has three levels of varying complexity - the vanilla Ice Storm, Ice Storm Unlimited, and Ice Storm Extreme. It is a cross-platform benchmark (which means that the scores can be compared across different tablets and smartphones as well). All three use DirectX 11 (feature level 9) / OpenGL ES 2.0. While the Extreme renders at 1920 x 1080, the other two render at 1280 x 720. The graphs below present the various Ice Storm worloads' numbers for different systems that we have evaluated.

The Fire Strike benchmark has three workloads. The base version is meant for high-performance gaming PCs. Similar to Sky Diver, it uses DirectX 11 (feature level 11) to render frames at 1920 x 1080. The Extreme version targets 1440p gaming requirements, while the Ultra version targets 4K gaming system, and renders at 3840 x 2160. The graph below presents the overall score for the Fire Strike Extreme and Fire Strike Ultra benchmark across all the systems that are being compared.

The Night Raid workload is a DirectX 12 benchmark test. It is less demanding than Time Spy, and is optimized for integrated graphics. The graph below presents the overall score in this workload for different system configurations.

UL recently introduced a benchmark to test the multi-threaded capabilities of the CPU in a system. Since gaming workloads are often multi-threaded, it makes sense to include this testing as part of the 3DMark suite. The benchmark routine attempts to perform the simulation of birds / bird-like objects flocking together using as many advanced capabilities as offered by the processor. The workload is configured to run with different number of threads ranging from 1 to 16 (and a single entry for the maximum number of threads allowed in the system).

Using 3DMark is as simple as downloading the benchmark module of your choice (Ice Storm is the default) and running it. The application has spectacular graphics with spaceships, ice storms, and multiple explosions. And, as usual, the whole time it will also be showing the frame rate per second.

3DMark is a computer benchmarking tool created and developed by UL (formerly Futuremark), to determine the performance of a computer's 3D graphic rendering and CPU workload processing capabilities. UL Solutions, the makers of the ever popular 3DMark benchmarking software, has announced 3DMark Steel Nomad. It's set to replace the now aging Time Spy benchmark, and it's sure to bring even the best rigs to their knees, as any new 3Dmark software should!

Steel Nomad is a heavy non-ray tracing cross-platform benchmark. It will support DirectX 12 via Windows, but also macOS and iOS using Metal, Android using Vulkan, and Linux using Vulkan. So far, only three screenshots have been teased and they certainly look good. For now we don't have any information on the structure of the test(s), though a CPU test would seem likely.

Why doesn't Steel Nomad support ray tracing? Well, there are the Speed Way and Port Royal benchmarks for that. Despite the industry and Nvidia in particular shouting about ray tracing from the rooftops, enabling it still incurs a hefty performance hit, and mid-tier graphics cards don't yet have the horsepower to run ray traced games consistently, particularly at higher resolutions. Rasterization still matters, and a cutting edge benchmark suitable for graphics cards old and new is welcome. e24fc04721
