I am personally a massive fan of the synthesis and intersectionality of different art forms. The idea of combining different mediums to create a style of art unique in its purpose and form is really interesting to me. The talk by Chip Thomas and the readings were both really interesting to me in this regard. Both the Inside Out Project and the works of Chip Thomas take an interesting approach to both photography and street art, the layering of art forms, first by photographing the subject, then pasting their image on a surface, and finally photographing the street art forms a fascinating dynamic. By physically installing the images, the artist is allowed to make a physical presence of their art that may be appreciated by anyone that passes by, and sometimes even improving the area around it, it is powerful, but vulnerable to be destroyed or worn with time. The photography of the street art then preserves that moment so that it may be shared in the future, and archived. The purpose of the art for me becomes more communal, able to be experienced by anyone in the physical area, and later anyone who searches for the images later, it serves both as a temporary physical feature, and later, once the art itself has faded and peeled off, a reminder that it was there in the first place. I love art that can be experienced on different levels and as i've found myself more and more interested in photography, it is honestly really cool to see examples of how photography can be used in multimedia artistry.
