Overview
In one of the higher power metas of 35 pokes, Dudunsparce punches above its usual weight class to become one of the premier Special Walls of October 2025 thanks to its chunky stats and a solid mono-Normal typing. With investment in HP and in Special Defense, Dundunsparce avoids being 2HKOed from some of the most fearsome special moves from the tier, notably Basculegion’s Hydro Pump, Moltres’s Fire Blast/Burn Up, and most important of all, Nidoking’s Sheer Force arsenal. It can then fire back with STAB-boosted Boomburst, a move that 2HKOs most offensive menaces from the tier, even when uninvested. On top of that, Dudunsparce’s deep movepool makes it a swiss knife of utility ranging from status to hazards and pivoting, making it a good glue Pokémon to round out teams.
Moves
Most Dundunsparce sets will carry both Roost and Boomburst, the former being its main way of shrugging off special attackers, and the latter its principal source of damage. Its last two slots are fairly customizable, depending on team needs. Glare is unique to Dudunsparce in October 2025 and is a great tool to help offensive partners clean later during the game, being able to paralyse even ground types like Nidoking. Thunderbolt can be used as a secondary source of damage to hit Basculegion as well as chip Corviknight more efficiently. Baton Pass turns Dudunsparce into a slow pivot to help frailer teammates hit the field, while Toxic and Yawn can be used to pressure other fat Pokémon who would usually shrug off Dudunsparce’s attacks like Articuno, Farigiraf or Pyukumuku. Dudunsparce can also carry Stealth Rock if your team lacks a hazard setter, being decent at facing off common removal like Corviknight or Weezing-Galar. Alternatively, Dudunsparce can also carry Calm Mind, turning it into a bulky set-up sweeper. In that case, you might want to run some speed investments to outspeed key threats such as Tauros-Paldea-Aqua or Zoroark after a Rattled boost, or go a bulkier route holding a Chople Berry to give you more ample room to set up. Finally, physical variants with Curse or Coil exist, but these sets are a lot more fringe.
Partners
October 2025 is a very top-heavy meta, so Dudunsparce fits nicely amongst other top tier Pokémon. It forms a great defensive core alongside physically defensive Corvinight, as together they cover both move categories. It also pairs well with Muk-Alola, being able to patch the blob’s weakness to Nidoking’s Earth Power. Additionally, slower wallbreakers like Nidoking, Offensive Moltres, Sirfetch’d or Porygon-Z appreciate Glare, which can paralyze faster Pokémon like Tauros-Paldea-Aqua or Scarf Basculegion who would otherwise get the jump. They also appreciate the slow pivoting from Baton Pass as they often struggle to find opportunities to switch in.
Checks & Counters
Dudunsparce suffers from the dreaded “4 moveslots syndrome”, its weaknesses changing depending on its moveset. Without Thunderbolt, it can’t touch Basculegion or Corviknight. Without Glare or Toxic, it lacks ways to meaningfully punish Pokémon that try to take advantage of its passivity like Muk-Alola, Articuno or Porygon-Z. Without Baton Pass, it becomes a momentum sink. Some of its flaws do carry on regardless, though: Dudunsparce has a single but very exploitable weakness to the Fighting type. It’s forced out by Tauros-Paldea-Aqua and Sirfetch’d, who can threaten a OHKO with Close Combat on non-Chople Berry variants, and more generally struggles to take hits from physical attackers. Finally, it’s vulnerable to chip, especially from Stealth Rock, as once it enters the 60% HP range, it becomes unable to switch in safely onto Nidoking or Basculegion and gets overwhelmed by Nasty Plot sweepers like Porygon-Z or Zoroark.
