On the surface it may be obvious what the first ban of 35 Pokes is. However,

there is a bit of a rabbit hole you have to go down to really understand why

it is not a commonly agreed upon thing. We can explain this through a timeline.

December 2023

The community was desperate for a spinner in the meta, ignoring Morpeko

because it was seen as fraudulent. NotGerald decided that a slot had to go

in place for a proper spinner. So Lunatone was chosen to be removed because

it was too bad in that meta, and they replaced it with Eldegoss. This was

referred to as the "Post Lunatone Ban Meta". Despite this being referred to

as such, this was arguably not a ban as no suspect test had been held, and

it's not like lunatone couldn't be rerolled into it again, it simply was just

removed in favor of making the tier more "playable" in the players eyes.

Funnily enough, this spawned the "Lunatone pissed on my wife" copypasta.

Lunatone also got an emoji on the sever called 'Bitchass motherfucker", and it

became an inside joke to crap on lunatone randomly without elaboration.

December Little Cup

During the month of December, Little Cup had it's first "real" month. Along

with this month, came a lot of busted Pokemon. Like they seriously rolled

six broken mons, in one month, it was crazy. Swirlix and Clamperl stood

out in particular, because of how difficult they were to answer. Because of

this as you can imagine this was problematic, so a suspect test was held

suspecting Swirlix, Clamperl, and Remoraid. Swirlix and Deep Sea Tooth did end

up going through a proper suspect 60% supermajority, and got banned.

So they went through the proper procedure, met requirements for the ban,

and got banned. So how is this not the first ban? It's for a simple reasoning

that 35 Little Cup is not the main 35 format, and may not count towards

the ban for that reason. There is an argument to be made that 35 LC was

"official" on it's inception, but since then every non Main format spin off

has been made unofficial.

January 2024

We of course have the iconic Weavile ban, which is largely referred to as the

first 35 pokes ban. During Janurary, weavile was everything you wanted in a

single pokemon. It had an amazing speed stat, it had stupid high ATK,

nothing dealt with it's stab typing, it actually had good bulk despite

its low defenses and bad defensive typing to the point where it did not

need focus sash, and of course its stab attacks were busted. It's best (and

only real) switch in was god damn Dubwool. Yeah, you can put the pieces

together. Weavile was suspect tested and banned by an extreme majority.

What sets this ban apart from the rest is that this was the first one done

properly in the main Metagame, making it the "official" first ban.

In a way, these all can be correct. Lunatone was the first Pokemon replaced

on it's respective list, Swirlix was the first Pokemon to go through a proper

suspect test, and Weavile was the first Pokemon straight up banned from the

main format. It's subjective and up to the people, but for all intents and purposes,

Weavile was the first banned pokemon in 35 Pokes.
