Welcome to the Scientific Department, more commonly referred to as ScD, a department of dedicated researchers with the vital responsibilities of researching, interviewing, and studying from the anomalies contained in Site-32. In an environment with unique and potentially dangerous anomalies, the duties that the Scientific Department conducts are vital and as such, Scientific personnel are expected to uphold a certain level of professional competence.
The Scientific Handbook will serve as a direct guide of the department's responsibilities. In this handbook, there will be the department's regulations, policies, and rules. Conducting research is the primary duty of the department, as such a separate handbook outlining testing can be found here.
Any inquiries or concerns with procedures should be directed to a member of the Scientific Department's Command Team.
The department structure outlines the departmental ranks along with each rank's promotional requirements. The structure of the department is broken down into three categories: Scientific Staff, Scientific Command, and Scientific High Command.
Research Student | Security Class-0
Research Students are newly introduced members of the department who have an introductory understanding of how the department operates. Because of this, they are only permitted to perform basic duties. In order to achieve the rank of Research Student:
Successfully apply for a position in the Scientific Department through the application page.
Assistant Researcher | Security Class-1
Assistant Researchers were Research Students who had advanced and successfully passed the beginning phase of the department. They are trusted with more duties and gain more privileges in the department, such as the ability to conduct tests on Safe and Euclid-classed anomalies. In order to achieve the rank of Assistant Researcher:
Attend a Student Seminar;
Spectate two tests or conduct one test (basic/advanced);
Have at-least one hour on-site; and
Pass the Research Student exam with a 70%.
Junior Researcher | Security Class-1
Junior Researchers are personnel who have gained experience in the Scientific Department and are now ready to conduct testing on moderate-risk SCPs with fewer restrictions. In order to achieve the rank of Junior Researcher:
Conduct three passed basic tests, or one B+ advanced tests;
Be a member of the department for at least three days; and
Pass the Junior Researcher exam with a 80%.
Researcher | Security Class-1
Researchers are personnel who have a moderate amount of experience in the Scientific Department. As a result, Researchers can conduct tests up to the PCW. Additionally, Researchers can request ethical waivers for anomalies in the IOCW and HCW. In order to achieve the rank of Researcher:
Conduct three advanced tests, two being graded at least A+;
Be a member of the department for at least seven days; and
Pass the Researcher exam with a 90%.
Senior Researcher | Security Class-1
Senior Researchers are personnel who have all-around experience in the Scientific Department. In order to achieve the rank of Senior Researcher:
Conduct three A+ advanced tests and one S advanced tests, or find one notable discovery;
Be a member of the department for at least two weeks;
Co-host four events; and
Receive an endorsement from the Command Team.
Endorsements are not guaranteed.
Research Instructor | Security Class-2 (Limit: 10)
Research Instructors are considered Junior Command and role models for other department members. At this stage of their career, their responsibilities shift to leading projects, organizing departmental events, and more. In order to achieve the rank of Research Instructor:
Handpicked at the discretion of High Command; and
Pass the probationary command phase.
Research Supervisor | Security Class-2 (Limit: 6)
Research Supervisors are considered Medium Command and demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication to the department. As part of their role, they are also considered the primary administrative board of the department. Research Supervisors have the authority to vote and propose legislation, along with delegating tasks assigned by their superiors. In order to achieve the rank of Research Supervisor:
Get handpicked for the position by the Board of Research.
Board of Research | Security Class-3 (Limit: 4)
Board of Research members are considered High Command and have several responsibilities such as maintaining and expanding the department, suggesting significant legislative changes, and executing tasks given by the Research Director. In order to achieve the rank of Board of Research:
Handpicked at the discretion of High Command; and
Pass the probationary command phase.
Research Director | Security Class-4 (Limit: 1)
The Research Director is responsible for all Scientific Department operations and is the executive lead of all administrative functions. In order to achieve the rank of Research Director:
Get handpicked for the position by the Department Overseer.
Users who have been selected for this position are highly trusted, recognized, and experienced members of the community.
The Scientific Department has subdivisions that specify on a unique task. These subdivisions are given more permissions and privileges towards testing and anomalies.
The Specialized Research Team is a subdivision consisting of skilled researchers who are delve deeper into anomaly research and capable of more long-term, dangerous tasks. Because of this, they have various different tools and advantages to their disposal.
The Specialized Research Team recruits members through announcing applications every now and then, followed by a subdivisional training program.
As a member of the Scientific Department, there are set expectations that Scientific Command expects those to meet. Those found in violation of these regulations shall be dealt with by the Scientific Department Command Team.
General Regulations
Scientific Department members must remain professional and mature while representing the department.
Representing the department includes: (1) Being on the department team on-site and (2) Acting in official capacity in any form, such as speaking on the behalf of the department.
Scientific Department members must abide by the regulations set in place by the Code of Ethics. Violators may receive departmental punishment on top of ethical violations issued by the Ethics Committee should this prove necessary.
Scientific Department members must follow the orders of their Command Team and combative.
Scientific Department members must never use any scientific equipment with the intent to harm any personnel or anomalies.
Scientific Department members are only allowed to conduct duties that their rank, certifications, and/or subdivision allows.
Scientific personnel are expected to uphold these regulations at all times.
This includes official events hosted in the Scientific Department reserved server.
Any found loopholes must be reported to a Board of Research+.
Testing Regulations
All testing and anomaly interaction regulations within the Code of Ethics must be followed.
All protocol regulations within the Code of Ethics must be followed.
All research conducted by Scientific Department members must be logged and submitted in the #test-submissions channel.
Scientific Department members may only test on a maximum of three anomalies at a time.
All tests require a combative escort.
Interviews do not require a combative unless entering a containment zone and/or using Class-D subjects.
Plagiarism from other logs is prohibited.
If using another person's custom format, the original creator must give permission for use.
The punitive handbook can be found here. This is a handbook that all Scientific Command must follow when issuing punishments. It is recommended that general department members read the handbook to understand the severity of all punishments issued within the Scientific Department.
The Scientific Department hosts many types of events where members can earn research points and learn new knowledge. Most events are hosted by the Scientific Command Team.
Student Seminars
Student Seminars are an introductory event for new members of the department, intended to teach Research Students the basic on duties, regulations, and much more. These events offer a site tour, teaching where Research Students are allowed and expected to conduct their duties at.
Department Lectures
Department lectures are educational on-site events that can be hosted by any Research Instructor+. These events provide detailed information about an anomaly: its classification, containment, and properties. Additionally, the anomaly's containment area may be shown to give a further demonstration.
Mock/Group Tests
Mock/Group tests are events hosted by any Research Instructor+ that teach participants on how to properly plan and run tests. Both events go through the entire testing process from requesting anomalies/Class-D to conducting a proper test.
