IT WAS WINDY AND FUN and we Villagers do adapt.

POD A: TODAY Jen Back and David Suminski collected six 11's across the board to take the crown in Pod A. David Suminski as you suspected is the son of Jim Suminski - who played in the other pod and also won some cash. Nice job Suminskis! Between the two of them, they won just enough to buy two beers and a taco.

POD B: Not to be undone...was our winner in Pod B - first time winner Angele Lines and veteran Richard Blythe. The Lines/Blythe duo were smiles galore as it was just a great pickleball day with great people.

Kathy Pals and Ron Rivas wear gold so very well

Another perfect pickleball day at Everglades. There was some spectacular play and new friends being made. Exciting news is that we now have both Pods of Everglades reserved so every Saturday 24 teams can now play Moneyball. I haven't worked out all the logistics, but the sign up sheet is out and we start next Saturday 12/2.

Today the powerhouse couple was Kathy Pals and Ron Rivas. They were smooth and smart. I know. They put a major hurting on me. Again this game is nice play with nicer people. Keep up the great work. See you next week!

Another great day in The Villages, but today it was the house that Rob Shultz built. He populated many of the player slots with lifelong friends and family that make a quick stop to play some pickleball before heading off to a wedding. Engel and Chiravolo Rule

Today was about spectacular results from spectacular people playing kick-ass pickleball. It was one of the most exciting "pins and needles" play we have seen since this game started.

The games were really tight to the end with a two way tie in Bracket A for first place at 53 points between Lamar Underwood/Nice Natalie and Rob Schultz/Kathy Pals. It was the head-to-head that pushed Lamar and Natalie into the final first place match.

The battle as always was a dog fight for first place with Kaylene/Tony taking the crown over Lamar/Natalie.

Lamar and Natalie were nearly flawless during their first 5 games with 11-11-11-9-11 in Pod A. Kaylene and Tony also posted the same scores interestingly 11-11-11-9-11 just in Pod B.

Exciting it was for our new lifestyle friends...Al and Dawn Sabogal visiting from Charlotte, NC who stopped by to post some impressive 11-11-5-11-11 points to get them to the 3rd/4th final game against Rob Schultz and fearless Kathy Pals. Team Schultz/Pals ended up with the 3rd place trophy, but it wasn't without some spectacular points being played and Team Sabogal very happy with their winning loot. Team Sabogal said this was their best pickleball all week speaking to the competition and camaraderie they felt by the group.

With the new addition of the highest points from the remaining teams to determine 5th/6th...Team Jen Back and Sean Donnelly were victorious over always happy Maureen Plainfield and steady-state Randy Neidermeyer. Great play by great people.

Today Schultz and Smith Rule

Sorry I've missed a few postings, but I am back with spectacular results from spectacular people playing kick-ass pickleball. I have to say I do smile to myself when folks stay after and share a beer after the five hard fought games. Win or lose, everyone plays their heart out every week with two hours of friendly play. I told my kid "foes on the court, friends off".

So today the dry spell of Rob Schultz is finally over as he and Meta Smith took command early. Meta was especially on fire with precision play and dynamite shots. Kathy Pals and Sean D easily moved to the top of Pod A to advance to the finals against Meta and Rob.

Newcomer Kreg Hamm came out of no where to partner up with Mary K who continues her fabulous partner finding magic. I didn't see Kim and Jason play, but I did hear on the sidelines they were furious as ever and I just nod in agreement. Special shout out to Karen Poirier who I thought played her best game ever.

Today was battle of the debs

Epic play between 3 DEB's, 2 JIM's, 2 JOHN's, 2 KATHY's and the rest of the field that were smart having unique names...

It was hot, hot, hot weather-wise and play-wise. First place went to Deb Lindewirth and Big Bad Brad who battled Deb Stults and Dave Keller in a very exciting final match. There were lots of cheers for both teams as the play continued.

On the other court was the battle for the 3rd place between Nan Summers and Bob Hanna taking on Deb McCarty and Doug McClintock. Deb/Doug eeked out the win 12-10 after chasing Nan/Bob for the entire match. Great playing everyone.

Repeat, but we loved it!

Maybe it was our incredible weather and perfect conditions, but Moneyball here in The Villages just couldn't be any better. With five wins coming into the final, McCarty/Marquess had great momentum going for them...but their opponents did too. The final match for First Place featured Kozlowski/Schultz vs. McCarty/Marquess. And yes, it was great pickleball; both teams played just smart pickleball and just like that.... Queen Mary and King Rob took home the final crowns (like 2 weeks ago...;))! Looks like we need a bigger crown for Rob!

Let's not forget about the battle for 3rd place between Plainfield/Heddon vs. Stults/Kellen. The score didn't reflect the back and forth play until the eventual winners Stults/Kellen eeked to the 11 point mark.

Sisters Summers and Liston did do battle and one of them will be looking for a place to sleep tonight....

Great friends, great rivalries and folks even stayed after the playoffs to keep playing. Thanks everyone for competitive and challenging games.

the Heddons make their mark

So many close matches, it was just good old fashioned fun today at Everglades. The Heddons mother/son duo put a hurting on their Pod to come out as the front runners. In the final match for 1st/2nd place they battled out the always spicy duo of Nina & Jack. The Heddons found the secret sauce to sneak past Nina & Jack and collect the first place cash. Great final match!

Newcomers Mark and Marianne weren't going to take any gruff from their opponents Jim and Judy in the fight for 3rd place. Judy and Jim finally did put the final icing on the cake, but Mark and Marianne fought for every point. Be sure to check out the elated 3rd place winner pic below. Best pic of the day!

Again newcomers turned the tables on the "regulars" by putting up winning numbers across the 7 games. First placers Vicki and Jim snuck by Rob and Tammi in a very exciting playoff game for first place. Equally tough was the fight for 3rd place with Mo (aka Giggles) /Chris battling Jessi/Tony.

Sitting on the sideline, I can tell you both playoff games were hard fought and worth the price of admission to see first class pickle play. Thanks to all teams for making this one of the best games in town.

In town visiting Jennifer Martinez found a powerhouse partner in Richard Blythe today to win every game against six mighty opponents. Jennifer, a teacher by day, finds enough practice time in Northern Virginia to show us Villagers "how it is done up in her neck of the woods". In the playoff match they won against a tough opponent of Mazo/Rivas 11-5 to secure the crowns.

We shift to the 3rd/4th place battle of Barga/Scultz vs. Schonhard/ Grey . The game traded smart shots back and forth with each team really fighting to get points on the board. Finally, lucky Erin snuck in a tide changer to help eek her team to the win column with a final score of 11-9. Epic play today Pickle People and this is not a April Fool's joke!

Another epic battle for the coveted crown: Curtis/Kaylene played hard to inch out Mary Ellen/Danny by a single point (11-10). The battle for 3rd and 4th was equally tense as Rob and Joan were trailing by 6 points. They surged to 9, but Jen and Billy pushed hard to close the door at 11. Final score 11-9 Billy and Jen with Jen wearing the coveted crown!
