In this class we use Design Thinking model, expressive arts techniques, and principles of art and design to create impactful art and find our passion (IKIGAI)
In Two Dimensional Design students explore the design thinking process, develop artistic expressive techniques/digital media practices, and create an artistic portfolio.
Participants in this course will develop a portfolio of 15-20 pieces that demonstrate design and artistic processes, and showcase work that visually documents individual expressive skills, experience, and creative practice. Specifically, the portfolio will include hands-on observational drawings, illustrations, Procreate animation, digital zines, comic books, prints, poster designs, paintings, and other visual materials.
This course takes a collaborative approach to artistic practices and helps students explore art from different perspectives and practice soft skills while solving creative problems with groups of peers. The class is designed to guide students through all main stages of the creative process, and dedicates time to self-reflective writing practices and visual literacy which fuels creative confidence, self-awareness, and individual artistic vision.
This introductory course explores the creation of two-dimensional art, including drawing, painting, and basic design principles in a variety of techniques and media. Emphasis is given to the development and application of the elements of art and the most importantly, to the establishing of a personal connection to art making and conduction personal artistic portfolio. The program is designed to guide students through main stages of the creative process, and to dedicate a significant portion of time to discussing social responsibilities of creative professionals, importance of feedback for artists, and evolution of creative concepts.
Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Employ the elements of art and principles of design in the artistic process to be able to recognize them and manipulate them in their own artwork.
Use artistic and design tools to organize, develop, and deliver creative ideas with simple sketches.
Create meaningful art through observational drawing (pencil, charcoal) and express feelings with texture, light and color (watercolor, painting.)
Effectively express their artistic ideas when participating in a school-wide art exhibit and demonstrate basic presentation skills.
Confidently participate in discussion and critique about major artworks as well as their own
I hope that Art become your IKIGAI or will lead to the discovery of your passion and joy. This Year we will use Design Process to explore art and find ikigai.

These design processes are similar to the scientific method – define the problem, experiment, test, and learn from the results. Most design processes involve roughly 3-7 phases or steps, any of which may overlap and are not sequential.
We explore a variety of ( 20pt) frameworks to find ideas for artwork. We grasp inspiration from social issues, global problems rooted in our history and global cultures.
We use sketchbook challenges ( 20 pt) to collect, compare, and analyze impactful ideas . We also use Sketchbook challenges to overcome artistic block s and boost creative confidence
We explore artistic expressive techniques and experiments with a variety of art materials when creating artwork/ design work (100pt)
The reflection is one of the most important parts of the project . We will discuss your artworks to amplify your artistic voice and look at the problem/solution from multiple perspectives. (20pt)
Intentionally or not, but we all use Elements and Principles of Art and Design when creating any kind of art.
These elements help to emphasize big ideas on our designs are and also make our score when it comes to standardized exams.
In this class we will use Elements and Principles of art and Design when reflecting on our process or talking about art in the class.
