VCE VM Literacy caters to students completing a VCE Vocational Major, where knowledge and skills are taught in the context of real-life. With an applied learning basis, students will develop everyday literacy skills through thinking, listening, reading, viewing and writing to prepare for the demands of the workplace and life beyond school. Students will also participate in a range of activities that allow the demonstration of their literacy skills, in the form of debating, class discussions and analysing texts. Content is drawn from a range of cultures, forms and genres, outlining the different contexts and perspectives across these different types of texts.
Across the two-year VM Literacy Program, students will investigate the use of literacy for personal use, in a digital environment, and in response to issues. This will then be used by students to deepen their understanding of how to create and respond to texts, before investigating the importance of engaging in literacy to advocate. Students will be provided with a mixture of theoretical and practical, project-based activities, to demonstrate their satisfactory understanding of the units.
As an alternative to VCE VM Literacy, selected students may study VCE English, English Language or Literature to meet the Literacy requirement of the VCE VM.
