In VCE Theatre Studies, students interpret scripts from historic periods to the present day and produce theatre for audiences. Students apply dramaturgy to scripts and work in the production roles of actor, director and designer, developing an understanding and appreciation of the role of theatre styles and movements. Students participate in acting and design workshops, attend rehearsals and present public performances.
Students learn about innovations in theatre production across different times, cultures and places and apply this knowledge to their work. Through the study of scripts and participating in the production process, students develop knowledge and understanding of theatre, its conventions and the elements of theatre composition. Students are provided with the opportunity to see professional plays developing written responses to performances. Students apply critical thinking skills, analysing and evaluating productions. Students also learn about and demonstrate an understanding of safe, ethical, inclusive and sustainable work practices in theatre production.
