Program

Pre-Congress Week – Second week of July of 2030

An International Soil Judging Contest, Technical Workshops and Webinars, as well as Soil in the Arts’ Programming, to be based at the University of Guelph, as well as any Pre-Congress Tours, are currently planned to be held during the period of Monday, July 8th to Saturday, July 13th.

Congress Week – Third week of July of 2030

Registration, Opening Ceremonies (reflecting Toronto’s cosmopolitan culture) and a Reception, for the 24th World Congress of Soil Science will be held on Sunday, July 14th.

Conference Symposia and Technical Sessions will be held on Monday, July 15th; Tuesday, July 16th; Thursday, July 18th; ending with a Closing Ceremony on Friday, July 19th. With a break on Wednesday, July 17th, delegates will be able to participate in any of the local In-Congress Tours. As is the established practice, the Local Organizing Committee will work closely with the IUSS Divisions, Commissions and Working Groups to develop the details of the Conference program. A formal call will go out, during 2028, to the IUSS membership, inviting proposals for symposium and session themes, to help ensure that the program is as reflective as possible of the current issues facing the global soil science community. These proposals will be evaluated during the lead-up to an IUSS Inter-Congress Meeting, to be held in Toronto, by the end of 2028. Calls for abstracts will be announced in 2029.

Business Meetings: Adequate time will be allocated to ensure that the IUSS Council, as well as its various Divisions, Commissions and Working Groups, are able to transact their specific business. It is also contemplated that certain non-IUSS organizations (such as the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils-ITPS) may desire the opportunity to coordinate meetings with the WCSS.

Post-Congress Week – Fourth week of July of 2030

All Post-Congress Tours, to be organized by regional committees across Canada, will be run during the week starting Sunday, July 21st.
