YouScience

If you are using YouScience in your classroom - good news! JA Inspire curriculum and YouScience are perfect partners, maximizing student career exploration experience.

Instruct students to take the YouScience Aptitude & Career Discovery assessments and have them save their results for easy reference (Download Aptitudes option available on the Aptitudes results page, in the upper right corner).

Students will use these results to complete a modified Session One handout (links below and included on their Materials PDF).

Note that there are two document options. If your school utilizes Google, suggest that students use the Template link to create their own handout file. In order to use this, students will need a Google Account. If your school does not utilize Google, instruct your students to use the Download file option and save the desired format.

Students will learn about career clusters in Session Two. Career clusters are included in the Career Interest Inventory assessment results on JA Here to Career and students, not using YouScience, will note their top three career clusters on their Session One handout (note: the above Session One handout has been updated for YouScience learners).

Students will be asked to research careers within those three career clusters on the Session Two handout (Career Clusters section). If your students completed the YouScience assessment, instruct them to instead either:

1. Choose three career clusters on JA Here to Career's Career Explorer page to explore, or

2. Match their top careers with three different career clusters.

If you are using option two, instruct students to:

• Select a career cluster option and scroll through the list careers to find the specific job title, or

• Use the search bar feature at the top of the Career Explorer page to find the career. Once a career is selected, related careers will appear on the right side with corresponding career cluster icons.

Encourage your students to utilize both platforms to search local companies, careers, and educational opportunities. Here are a few ideas:

• JA Here to Career features career-specific videos. Suggest that students search for their top careers using the Career Explorer tab and watch these videos.

• Use the Career Explorer on JA Here to Career to find local companies hiring for specific careers of interest – and to discover local higher education institutions with training options.

• Encourage students to explore one career cluster on the Career Explorer that they are not interested it. Have them pick one career and search for it on YouScience’s platform to see how their aptitudes line up.
