To celebrate Chinese New Year with Island School students, five students from Secondary 3 volunteered to write a script and prepare the PowerPoint slides for the English Morning Assembly at Island School. Due to COVID-19, instead of conducting a face-to-face assembly for Island School, a short segment was filmed and played at the Island School morning assembly on 28 January 2022.

It was a valuable experience for me to learn how to write a script and present in front of a camera. Honestly, I was really afraid at first, but through several rounds of practice, I was not frightened anymore. I think this short video is meaningful as people can know more about Chinese New Year through it. Moreover, I also learned how to cooperate with others and be more responsible. That’s why I would encourage my schoolmates to make some English videos like us. It won’t take you too long since it’s a short video. I’m sure you will be amazed and find it a meaningful experience if you join us next time.

I enjoyed making the video. I also found it meaningful since I could share some new year traditions with the students in Island School who might not know much about it. Moreover, I learned that filming videos takes more time and effort than I thought. I’ll encourage my schoolmates to try doing the same thing as it's actually pretty fun to do so. You can also boost your confidence in speaking English. Lastly, if we could play some videos filmed by Island School students like what we did in our English morning assembly, it might be a good idea.

It was a valuable experience for me to learn how to make a video and how to present in front of a camera. To prepare for the content, I needed to write down some ideas first and search for information on the Internet. To prepare for the recording, I needed to practise how to speak English fluently and naturally. As a result, I have become more knowledgeable since I learned a lot of vocabulary items about Chinese New Year. More importantly, I also learned how to cooperate with others. I really enjoyed the whole process of writing and recording the video. I would encourage my schoolmates to make English videos like me since it is great fun.
