Synopsis
In the last decade large-scale reclamation projects were carried out in Hong Kong using deep mixing as ground improvement to enhance the lateral stability of seawalls and to provide a load transfer platform in main reclamation area. Large amounts of data have been made available from field and laboratory tests, as well as instrumentation monitoring of field performance. The data has been systematically interpreted to provide justifications for optimising the current design methodology of deep mixing to achieve sustainable construction and development. In addition, smart solutions have been implemented such as machine learning of big ground data to optimise the spacing of ground investigation stations, and dedicated constitutive modelling to capture the brittle behaviour of mixed materials. The presentation will highlight the optimisation of deep mixing design in various aspects by using high quality data and smart technologies.
