>> Register for the 2026 Golden State Orienteering Champs (coming soon!)
The 3rd episode of the Golden State Orienteering Champs happens Friday, November 6th through Sunday, November 8th! Fresno is about as central as it gets, equidistant from the Bay Area area and Los Angeles. For the 2024 Golden State Champs and 2025 Golden State Champs, we featured 3 new maps each time, and this will continue in 2026, so this should be a fair competition - no terrain familiarity. And after the South won in 2024 and the North came back to win in 2025, the annual series is tied 1-1 -- who will take the lead this year?
Let's gather the Southern California clubs, LAOC and SDO, and the Northern California clubs, BAOC and GCO and Truckee and Nav-X, for a friendly competition to see who can show up and put on a good show on the courses. Not a California resident? No problem: see the next paragraph.
The event is welcome to all to participate. If you're from outside of California, you can participate, and if you want to score as an individual or for Northern California or Southern California, all you need to do is become a member of BAOC, GCO, LAOC, Nav-X, SDO, or Truckee. Your best 2 of the 3 races count. See the Scoring tab for more details.
Group Camping available at Eastman Lake's Codorniz Recreation Area Group Campground South for Friday and Saturday nights.Â
And who's putting on the event? We are. I'm just getting the permits, coordinating help, making the maps, and putting out the courses. This year, we have more people contributing: Clare Durand, course setting a Trail-O Saturday alongside the Middle for the Los Angeles Orienteering Club and Vladimir Gusiatnikov, course setting the Long at Ruth McKenzie Table Mountain Preserve.
