K-6th Grade Programs
Tuesdays, June 3rd - 24th at 6:30 p.m.
For grades 5-12
Want to learn how to become your favorite character? In this club, you'll learn how to determine the identifying pieces of a character's style and ways you can recreate them yourself. You'll also learn some of the basic sewing skills you'll need to start making and altering your own costumes, and you'll even learn how to make some foam/cardboard armor. Each week we'll build on the skills we learned at the previous session. No prior sewing skills are necessary!

We'll discuss a different graphic novel each meeting. Stop by the Children's Desk to pick up a copy of the graphic novel so you can read it before we get together.

For grades 4-6 (and senior adults)
This is a hybrid book club in collaboration with our Older Adult librarian. Students and senior citizens will get together to meet over lunch (lunch will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!) and discuss Nic Stone's Clean Getaway, a middle-grade chapter book about a bi-racial boy who goes off on an adventure with his white grandmother, recreating a road trip that she and his grandfather (an interacial couple) took through the South in 1963. We'll meet four times to discuss the story and the history of the Civil Rights Movement. You can stop by the Children's Desk to find out what's for lunch and pick up a copy to get started on reading. For the first meeting, please read Chapters 1-6.

For grades K-6
Do you enjoy cartooning? Come follow along with Jo Wos (via video) and contribute to a class mural each week. Class will start with a story and then cartoon instruction/practice will follow before the collaborative art begins. Each student will be provided with a journal, thanks to our friends and partners at WQED.

Produce a one-of-a-kind masterpiece by using the Library's art supplies to create an upcycled cardboard creation. Let you imagination lead the way.

For grades 2-5
Join this hands-on writing workshop that turns ideas, creativity, writing and drawing into a professionally bound book. All participants will have at least one written page and one illustration in the book (more depending on the number of participants). The final book will be sent for publication and placed in our library's collection.

If you like creating, this is a don't-miss class! Art instructor, Michelle Kirk, will surprise you with the day's activity. Just come in your messy clothes or art smock and be ready for fun!

For grades K-2
Come learn how to build a birdhouse! Stay afterwards to decorate it using some of the Library's art supplies. A story will be shared beforehand. Children must attend with an adult.

Cooking can be an art form, too, especially with unique and colorful recipes! Join us as we explore different cultural dishes from Korea, India and Asia.

Bethel Park's American Legion family members are coming to the Library to help kids decorate cookies celebrating America, our nation's flag, and military service. Each registrant will get to show off their decorating skills, tell us what their inspiration was, and hear from veterans about their military service and what inspired them to join. A group photo will be taken, and all participants will recieve a gift bag courtesy of the BP American Legion family.

Come build with friends using the Library's Lego collection. Be sure to bring your imagination. A special guest and Lego expert will visit during the last class and provide you with some Lego building challenges!

Performed by staff from the Children's Institute, this skit is designed to help children better understand and accept peers who have special needs. Hearing and visual impairment, as well as cerebral palsy, will be the focus of this performance. Don't miss this highly engaging and entertaining show that is sure to have a positive impact.

When steel ruled the "rust belt" of America, and clouds of smoke lay thick over its valleys and towns, a giant's footsteps could be heard echoing through the dusty streets. Listen as the master storyteller, Tim Hartman, brings to life the legend of Joe Majarac, wit hthe standards of heroism, self-sacrifice, and loylaty that Joe personified. This is a wonderful, highly entertaining history program that you don't want to miss!

Get ready to unleash your creativity with colorful Perler beads! Join us at the Library for a fun, hands-on crafting session to create an awesome design using our many templates. It's a perfect chance to get crafty, chill with friends, and add a little color to your day.

If you love playing with the puppets in the Library's family play area, then this workshop is for you! We'll learn about the history of puppetry, learn some of the tips and tricks of puppeteering, and then make our own silly sock puppets.
