Sustainable Ideas through Education, Engineering, and Design
S.E.E.D. is an international initiative launched to transform science and technology education by integrating creativity, responsibility, and hands-on innovation at the heart of learning. It was first established in celebration of the opening of the Indonesia-leading STEAM LAB at Sanata Dharma University, and is further expanding through the installation of Fab Labs at major Indonesian teacher-training institutions such as UPI (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia), UNNES (Universitas Negeri Semarang), and Undiksha (Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha).
Traditional education in science and engineering has long focused on memorization and lectures. S.E.E.D. was founded to lead a paradigm shift — from passive, top-down instruction to a student-centered, project-based, and creativity-enhancing learning experience. By engaging future educators — university students who will become tomorrow’s science teachers — S.E.E.D. helps shape the way science and engineering are taught across Indonesia and beyond.
Capstone and Maker-based Projects tackling real social and environmental issues
STEAM Education that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, and Mathematics
Fab Lab Utilization for prototyping and hands-on design
Collaborative Teams from universities across ASEAN
Mentorship and Networking with international experts
Sustainability and Social Impact as core values of evaluation
S.E.E.D. aims to:
Expand its Fab Lab-based learning ecosystem across Southeast Asia
Develop educator-centered training for STEAM-based curriculum design
Host an annual S.E.E.D. Competition rotating among ASEAN countries
Foster a community of future-ready educators equipped with innovation, empathy, and global responsibility
S.E.E.D. is more than a program. It is a movement.
A movement to reimagine education, empower young changemakers, and sow the seeds of a better future — starting in Indonesia and spreading across ASEAN
