The NOBCChE Collaborative's purpose is to develop a pipeline of academic career opportunities for NOBCChE undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral members that helps to achieve NOBCChE’s overall mission and seeks to improve the representation of people of color in academia.

This Collaborative model was co-founded by former Vice President Kemal Catalan (NOBCChE 2015-2017) and currently consists of two charters that have worked together to build micro-networks that support underrepresented minorities at the undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, and even faculty levels.
Meet the Team
Dr. Tyrslai M. Williams-Carter is the Assistant Dean of Mentoring, Research, & Education at Louisiana State University. Formerly, she served as the Director of OSI Programs. With a background in Organic Chemistry and STEM Education, Dr. Williams-Carter is dedicated to broadening participation and increasing matriculation of undergraduate and graduate students in STEM and MESH fields. She is the President Elect of NOBCChE and a liaison for NOBCChE’s Collaborative, positions that empower her to make a powerful impact in the field. Dr. Williams-Carter's research focuses on creating pathways for all students to achieve their academic goals and supporting them through critical junctures on their academic journey. She has published scientific and educational publications and is involved in various professional STEM organizations. Dr. Williams-Carter's commitment to education and community extends beyond the STEM community, as she actively participates in organizations such as Junior League Baton Rouge and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. She is a true leader and advocate for change in both academia and society.
Shelita Renee Augustus (Norfolk State University'20 (B.S. Chemistry) / The College of William & Mary'24 (M.S. Applied Science) / Purdue University'26 (Ed.D. Leadership and Innovation) has been NOBCChE Collaborative's intern since September 2021, leading the Collaborative Student Committee (CSC), facilitating the annual Faculty Seminar Series as well as orchestrating various logistical duties, including Collaborative programming, Spring meeting coordination, and National conference planning. Shelita's commitment to diversifying science is unwavering, and her passion for her responsibilities shines through in every aspect of her work. Shelita is committed to the Collaborative's success where she also takes great pride in representing the students and advocating for their needs.
