Students are expected to arrive between 8 and 8:55AM in the mornings. At 8:55 AM, NMSA doors will be locked.
If your student is sick, parents need to send email to spcyw-nm@lanl.gov
Breakfast items and snacks will be available at the Camp
Lunch and morning and afternoon snacks will be provided at NMSA to all students.
SCHEDULE:
NMSA will be open every day starting at 8am and we will be at the Camp having fun and available for one on one interactions and having demos so plan to come in early! After at around 8:55AM NMSA front doors will require one of us to come and allow you in so please, help us make the mornings smooth and come eager to learn, curious and early!
A poster with phone numbers will be posted at the entrance of NMSA to call in and ask for someone to come to the door to let people into NMSA. Please, wear your badges every day after the first day to help us keep the camp organized.
Parents can come in the first day before we start to meet us and the last day when we will talk about opportunities for college in NM and internships and you will show off some of your projects if they wish to, otherwise, we expect only students will be coming into the Camp/school every day.
Attendance every day from 9:00-4:30pm is required to get the stipend and certificate. If you know of conflicts in advance, please let me know as soon as possible. Emergencies happen and we know it, but volleyball practice or long weekend for fun are not acceptable reasons to miss hours at the camp because unlike school, we have multi-day projects and you missing one day will impact the remaining of the days.
MEDICATIONS:
if you are allergic or suffer from anything that requires you to have medication handy, please always bring the meds with you and understand what and when to take the medication.
FORBIDDEN ITEMS AND ACTIONS:
Vaping, smoking, any kind of drug use or having in your possession any kind of harmful weapon during the camp or in front of the school will be a reason for immediate dismissal from the camp.
Discrimination, name calling or unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated and will be a reason for immediate dismissal from the camp.
ATTIRE:
For your safety: we expect you to wear professional and comfortable attire. We ask that you NOT wear open toes shoes, that you wear bottoms that cover all of the area above your knees and shirts that overlap with the top of your bottom pieces of clothing during the camp and that you have handy a long sleeve piece of clothing that you can put on if/when needed. [But … “I like to express myself through my extravagant clothing!” that’s fine! Please wear it before the camp and change when you get into the school or bring something you can put on that clothing (eg lab coat ?) when you are at the camp and you can take off when you leave the camp]
Why? Because during the camp we will be working with sharp objects, tools, lasers, soldering irons etc and we want you protected at all times… it is better for a piece of clothing to get damaged than your skin! We will provide you with personal protective equipment when needed (goggles, gloves etc)
FEEDBACK:
Every day you will be asked to answer a form to provide feedback to us so we can tackle issues as we go. We ask that you help us make the camp FANTASTIC for everyone
You have been asked to "sign in" to the Camp Google Classroom. This will be the primary means that we communicate announcements, upcoming items to do, share science awesomeness, and have the daily entry/exit passes and surveys to complete.
REPORTING:
If you see something, say something: We ask that you IMMEDIATELY report any safety issues during the camp (someone getting burnt, starting a small fire, or not following directions about personal protective equipment, or acting inappropriately or…) directly to me: Anna Llobet (allobet@lanl.gov) or to one of the educators you will meet the first day.
