공중정원 公衆庭園

빈집, 폐허에 들어가보고 싶은 호기심.
폐장한 놀이공원, 문 닫은 호텔, 버려진 공간에 대한 환상.
Ruinenlust*. 이 마음은 어디에서부터 오는 걸까?

*Ruinenlust : 독일어'Ruinen'(폐허)과 'Lust'(욕망, 즐거움)가 결합된 단어로, 폐허나 오래된 건축물에서 느끼는 감정적인 끌림이나 아름다움을 설명하는 용어. 독일 전낭만주의에서 시작된 Ruinenlust는 폐허나 오래된 건축물을 파괴된 상태가 아니라 그 자체로 미학적 가치를 지닌다고 여긴다.

사라진 사람과 피어난 곰팡이.
서늘한 회벽 냄새. (이곳은) 손 댈 수 없는 죽음의 영역.
예술이 이 빈틈을 파고들 때를 생각한다.
폐허 벽돌 사이에 끼는 이끼처럼 예술이 파고든다.

예술은 버려진 폐허의 각 부분을 가리킨다.
예술은 폐허의 재생을 꿈꾸지 않는다.
무너진 것을 복구하고 생기를 돋우지 않는다.
출입이 금지된 폐허에 약속된 침범을 허용할 뿐.
여기의 모두가 목격자가 된다. 

헐벗은 채로 공간이 눈앞에 놓여 있다. 이중 누구도 주인이 아니다.
나는 나의 주인이고 너는 너의 주인일 뿐, 작가와 관람자 어느 누구도 이곳의 주인은 아니다.
망가지고 실패하고 버려진 것이 너덜너덜하게 이어지는 풍경 안에서 우리는 서로의 영역을 목격하고 조금씩 교차하여- 엿듣고- 돌아간다. 

그리하여 꿈꾸는 것은 부서진 것을 있는 그대로 직시하는 것.
공들일 것은 부서진 틈새에 먼저 들어찬 예술과 함께 주인없는 집을 맘껏 누빌 것.

A Fantastical Space Created and Opened Together

Public Art Garden

A Curious Desire to Step into an Empty House, a Ruin.
A fascination with deserted amusement parks, shuttered hotels, forsaken spaces.
Ruinenlust—where does this feeling originate?

Ruinenlust: A German term combining Ruinen (ruins) and Lust (desire, pleasure), describing the emotional pull and aesthetic appreciation of ruins. Originating in German Romanticism, it sees ruins not as mere decay, but as bearing intrinsic beauty in their broken state.

A vanished presence. Mold slowly blooming.
The cool scent of damp, bare plaster walls.
This is the realm of untouchable death.

We imagine the moment art begins to seep into this void—
like moss taking root between crumbling bricks.

Art gestures toward each scattered fragment of the ruin.
It does not dream of revival.
It does not aim to restore or mend.
Rather, it grants a sanctioned trespass into the forbidden.
Here, all become witnesses.

The space stands exposed before us. No one owns it.
I am the keeper of myself, and you of yourself;
neither artist nor viewer holds claim.

Within this frayed landscape of failure and abandonment,
we glimpse each other’s domains, cross paths—
overhear—then quietly depart.

Thus, we dream of confronting the broken as it is.
We endeavor to traverse this ownerless house freely, alongside the art that first settled into its fractures.

This is 〈Public Art Garden 公衆庭園〉,
a fantastical space created and opened together.
