We invite eight high school students from around the Lowcountry area to apply to our week-long, non-residential Math Research Experience this summer! We are looking for students excited about solving new math problems.
Worried that you're unprepared? Don't be! We'll teach you what you need to know.
Eight camp participants will be divided into four groups of two students each. Each group will have two mentors -- one high school teacher and one Citadel professor. The groups will work on solving problems from topics like Fibonacci numbers, number theory, combinatorics, statistics, and applied mathematics through the week. During the camp, students will learn about the research process by solving open problems from publications such as The Fibonacci Quarterly, The American Mathematical Monthly, The College Mathematics Journal, Mathematics Magazine, and Math Horizons. The students will develop oral presentation skills through daily presentations to the other groups as well as a final presentation at the end of the week to teachers, family, and friends. Students will learn LaTeX, a scientific word processing software, to submit their solutions for publication. Students will be supported to present their findings at the 2026 South Carolina Junior Academy of Sciences annual meeting.
