In the event that you need assistance from a Leadership staff for any reason, walkie them directly and ask that they come to your location.
Maintaining proper supervision and ratios is the first step in keeping all of our campers safe. Every child at camp should be in the line of sight of at least one counselor at all times. The best kind of accident is one that was prevented from ever happening.
Headcounts must be constant and correct. Every counselor should know where each of their campers are at all times. Do not leave a space until you have completed a proper and accurate headcount.
Learn your camper's names early. Know who should or should not be with you.
We have rules for a reason. Enforce the rules to the best of your abilities at all times.
IMMEDIATELY will be used extremely sparingly - this means it carries great importance. If you hear the word IMMEDIATELY over the walkie, intercom, via text message, or directly from the Director, you need to jump into action.
The classroom phones double as intercoms. In the case of emergency, these may be utilized to spread information quickly.
In all life-threatening situations, call 911 IMMEDIATELY. In all other emergencies, call a Leadership staff.
In a non-life-threatening emergency, Leadership staff will contact the Director who will determine when to call 911.
Any staff member needing to call 911 may do so from any available telephone including their personal cell phone.
If possible, use a school landline as this automatically alerts various staff that a 911 call has been placed. Note: the need for speed and access to a phone should always be the determining factor when calling 911.
In any case, the Director MUST be notified after someone calls 911 so that the responding emergency medical vehicle may be met and escorted to the appropriate location by a Leadership staff.
If you have to call 911:
Tell them the location of the incident.
Our address is 10224 Baileywick Road.
You should let emergency personnel know the specific building and room the emergency is located in.
Once you notify emergency personnel of your exact location, DO NOT move from that location unless the location becomes unsafe.
Tell them the number of injured or ill individuals.
Tell them a brief history of the incident that occured.
Give them your name and the phone number you're calling from.
If possible, stay on the phone with emergency personnel until they arrive on the scene.
Notify the Director immediately.
If a staff member is unable to calm an out-of-control camper you should contact the Director IMMEDIATELY.
Do your best to protect other campers at the scene as well as yourself.
Remove campers from the area if necessary and safe to do so, leaving the out-of-control student in the contained area.
Do your best to manage the emotions of other campers.
The Director will notify the parents as soon as possible to request assistance with the unruly camper.
If the camper refuses to stop the behavior and presents a danger to themselves or others, law enforcement will be contacted for assistance.
Use extreme caution. Do not confront the suspect.
Remain calm. Do as demanded if the intruder is with you.
Notify the Director or 911 if possible but not if it will put you or others at risk.
Avoid sudden moves, do not argue, keep campers as calm as possible.
Keep the intruder’s attention on you, not the campers.
Be observant but do not stare. Pay attention to what they touch without gloves.
The school will go to CODE RED lockdown. Evacuation of some areas is potential depending upon the situation.
It is important that all staff during a code red remain in their location. Running towards other students can cause attention to be drawn to you, either drawing the threat to follow you or by causing responding law enforcement to misidentify you as the threat.
An evacuation is the physical movement of all campers, staff, and visitors to temporary locations away from Trinity.
In the event of an evacuation:
Unless directed by emergency personnel, only the Director may make the decision to evacuate, separate from an automatically triggered fire alarm.
Evacuation announcements should be made in the most appropriate and expedited fashion given the cause for evacuation.
This could include an announcement to affected areas, individually delivered messages, or the pulling of the fire alarm.
Occupants should remain silent so directions and instructions can be heard.
Unless otherwise stated, all staff, campers, and visitors will move immediately to Founders Hall. If the fire is in Founders Hall, all occupants will move to the baseball field.
Depending upon the reason for evacuation, law enforcement may have to clear a location before continued use of the area.
Leadership will have an emergency bag as well as their walkie two-way radio.
Once your huddle has arrived as the designated location, you must complete a headcount.
Missing campers students should be reported to the Director IMMEDIATELY.
Leadership staff will be responsible for checking all buildings to locate the missing camper.
No camper may leave their huddle during an evacuation without approval from the Director. NO exceptions.
All communication following the evacuation procedure will be handled by the Director.
Partial Evacuations
Unless the evacuation is campus wide, it is recommended that during an initial evacuation any unaffected areas of campus remain occupied.
In each area, Leadership Staff will determine if there is a need to hold those unaffected areas and prevent any movement, or if those unaffected locations can continue to operate as normal.
As more information becomes known about the partial evacuation, determinations can be made for how to proceed, including evacuating additional buildings, or adjusting to utilize the additional buildings for those displaced by the evacuation
Notify the Director as soon as possible.
You may call 911 but the Director MUST be made aware so actions can be taken to protect other campers.
An evacuation of all other areas will be implemented as soon as is possible or the campus will be placed on a CODE RED lockdown.
If you are taken hostage:
Follow the instructions of the hostage taker.
Calm campers if they are present. You are the person best able to manage the situation and are only able to do so if you are calm yourself.
Be respectful to the hostage taker. Ask permission to speak and do not argue or make suggestions.
The goal is to avoid harm to others and to buy time for law enforcement to arrive and take over, not to end the situation yourself in a manner that could cause harm to yourself or others.
A lockdown is implemented when action needs to be taken to safeguard students, staff, and visitors.
A lockdown could be implemented for an incident off-campus that has the potential to approach campus or for an incident already occurring on campus.
A lockdown reduces movement allowing law enforcement to address the incident safely.
Trinity utilizes two types of lockdown codes:
CODE RED: This means there is an immediate threat to the school. This is a complete, campus-wide lockdown. All exterior doors will be unlocked to allow police access to any building on campus. Interior doors where people are stationed should be locked.
CODE YELLOW: This means that an exterior (off-campus) threat has the potential to approach campus. This is an exterior only lockdown, resulting in all people on campus moving indoors and locking all exterior doors and windows.
During either type of lockdown, emergency commands will be sent IMMEDIATELY over the walkies and intercom if possible. 911 will also be alerted to the situation.
If it is safe to do so, additional commands will be issued via text-message or GroupMe. The messages will be the following:
Camp Trinity has entered a CODE YELLOW lockdown of campus in accordance with law enforcement recommendation and guidance. This is in response to a potential threat OFF campus to help ensure the threat remains off campus. Please await further information before attempting to come on campus, as that will only interfere with efforts on campus and put you and potentially others at risk. More information will be shared as soon as possible.
Camp Trinity has entered a CODE RED lockdown of campus in accordance with law enforcement recommendation and guidance. Please await further information before attempting to come on campus, as that will only interfere with efforts on campus and put you and others at risk. More information will be shared as soon as possible.
Any staff member with access to control doors should lock all doors, or verify they are locked.
Staff should instruct their campers to gather in a large, secure room.
Once inside, you should complete the following steps:
Ensure the door is locked.
Turn off all the lights.
Ensure all windows are blocked and that no one can be seen from any window.
Instruct all campers to remain completely still and silent, out of view of the windows.
Turn off your walkie and turn your phone to silent.
Do your best to remain calm and encourage others to do the same.
Do not unlock the door or leave the room for any reason.
Wait for law enforcement to arrive and give further instructions.
Leadership staff will look for campers left in the open and will usher them into a locked room.
Any communication following the incident will be handled by the Director in coordination with Trinity Academy administration as well as law enforcement personnel.
Should a staff member see a situation which could be considered a medical emergency, their first response should be to call 911.
If other staff members are present, have them call in the following priority order:
Call 911.
Call for the Director. Explain the situation and if 911 has been activated.
If other staff members are not present:
Call 911 yourself.
If you do not have a cell phone, call for the Director over the walkie and alert them to a situation that needs their immediate attention. Explain the need for someone to call 911.
The Director will designate one staff member to meet the ambulance at the entrance roundabout and direct them to the appropriate location.
Any staff members available in the area will help to clear the area of campers and assist as the Leadership staff request until EMS has arrived.
Activating the AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
The AED can diagnose a potentially life-threatening heart rhythm and, through the use of electricity, bring the heart back into a regular rhythm.
If an AED is needed, there are four on the property.
Building 3 by the Main Office
US Building by Parking Lot Entrance
Founder’s Hall in the Gym
Building 4 in the Athletic Office - this device is mobile as it is used for various events on campus and may not always be present in it's docked location
Should you need to activate the AED, these are the steps:
Activate 911.
Clear area of campers.
Call for or go get the AED.
Call for the staff on duty or Leadership staff.
After an incident:
Do a camper headcount.
Watch for signs of stress in yourself and others.
Calm campers.
Dispel rumors.
Utilize the full-time staff for any advice or assistance.
The Director will handle communication with parents regarding the incident.
Using the walkie, the Director or Leadership staff will call the camper to the Atrium
Using the walkie-talkies, the Director or Leadership staff will ask for assistance from all staff members in locating the missing camper.
If two minutes pass after the first announcement and the camper has not been located, the staff on duty will use the walkie-talkies to announce, “Everyone go IMMEDIATELY to your huddle room,” or, “Everyone go IMMEDIATELY to [a central location].”
All counselors, LEAD, and campers should go immediately to their huddle room or the central location mentioned.
Counselors should see to it that campers follow the directions in a calm but urgent manner. Counselors should complete a headcount immediately after getting to their assigned location and report that headcount to the Leadership staff.
All non-counselor staff members should report to the Atrium where they will be given an assignment.
One staff member will be sent to search the Gym and all rooms in that building.
One staff member will be sent to search the Playground.
One staff member will be sent to search the fields.
One staff member will be sent to search the low ropes area.
A Leadership staff will take their vehicle to do a half-mile radius search of the Baileywick/Strickland area and surrounding shopping centers.
Until everyone is accounted for, do something to redeem the time, be it conversation with your campers or an appropriate game.
All counselors, LEAD, and campers should stay inside huddle rooms or the assigned location until given further instructions by staff on duty.
Weather will be continuously monitored by Leadership staff throughout the week.
Thunder/Lightning
In the case of thunder/lightning, outdoor activities will be suspended until 30 minutes after thunder/lightning is no longer nearby (or is verified to be 8 miles or more away after 15 minutes).
Movement about campus during severe weather will be determined by the Director based upon the severity of weather along with the impact of delaying any movement.
Dismissal may be early or delayed in severe weather events
Lunch may be delayed or moved to huddle rooms in severe weather events.
Other activities may be cancelled or delayed due to severe weather events.
Do not activate the fire alarm unless there is a confirmed fire as sending campers out into the weather may pose a greater danger unless there is a fire.
Tornadoes
Tornadoes often occur at the tail end of a storm.
They may not be visible but a clear sign is wind dying down right before the tornado hits. Tornadoes may be noticeable by a debris cloud.
In the event of a tornado:
Avoid entering any structure hit by the tornado unless rescue operations are underway.
Evacuate from those structures to other undamaged structures.
Be careful around debris of nails, glass, powerlines (puddles touching powerlines), and emergency traffic driving fast.
An announcement will be made via intercom and over the walkie
ALL campers and staff should exit to hallways and other entirely interior spaces.
ALL campers should kneel down facing the walls (or lockers) and cover their head with their hands (or, if possible, a large textbook). For extended warnings, the full posture can be delayed pending Director discretion.
Close classroom doors.
ALL campers and staff outside should return immediately to their huddle room building or closest building.
Anyone in Founders Hall should immediately be gathered into the locker rooms and bathrooms.
Wait until further directions or ALL CLEAR is given by the Director or emergency personnel.

Await further instructions.
Ants: Avoid leaving any open food or drink containers indoors. If you see ants inside a building, notify staff on duty right away.
Stinging Insects: If you see flying insects of any kind simply move your campers away. If you encounter a stinging insect indoors, open the door and let the insect fly away. If you encounter a nest, notify the staff on duty right away.
Ticks: Check yourself each day to ensure you have no signs of a bulls-eye rash or a spreading rash on your arms or legs as these are signs of potential tick borne illness.
Snakes: If you encounter a snake on campus, let staff on duty know immediately and move your campers away from the area. Have one counselor stay put at a safe distance to keep an eye on the snake until facilities help arrives.
