New York State Education Department Commissioner Betty A. Rosa praised Arenz as "the embodiment of a dedicated and inspirational teacher," highlighting his creation of "a safe and supportive environment" as "a model for all schools across the state." 

Reflecting on his journey, Arenz remarked, "This award is proof of my growth personally and as a teacher." He emphasizes the importance of student connection, stating, "I just think at the core of teaching, it's important for kids to feel connected."

Arenz's teaching philosophy centers on creating an environment where students feel safe and valued. He believes in "establishing places where folks feel safe, communication is encouraged and anyone is welcome to express their truest self." He asserts, "It's my job to celebrate everything that a child does and to make sure that they love every moment of being in school."
