TOPIC/THEME #1
For the theme of my film opening, I made the theme to be a serial killer theme. I planned for the film opening to start during the 31st October which is famously known as Halloween. A prisoner who is famously known as the psychopath who progressively turned back to "normal" since she spent years in prison after getting caught for stalking teenagers at their houses which she did for 'fun'. When she was let out, she immediately sprang back into her old persona, looking to find her next victim. The only secret that she has is that no matter what she cannot get killed unless the teenagers could find out how to stop her.
The reason why I choose the theme is because it combines mystery and horror which helps me dive into the topic of combining two genres and how to tackle it. I believe that this theme can help execute the idea of the two genres ideally and I also think the idea of serial killers is more realistically to happen than monsters which can make it "scarier" to more audiences.
The reason why I choose those social groupings of the teenager and adult because adults usually commit crimes that include stalking and since teenagers are usually more emotional and inexperienced than most adults, it makes most of them easier to be victimized than most adults.
( We decided to abandon this topic since we couldn't find an adult actor and a halloween theme is hard to pull off with the limited time we are given to complete the film opening including how hard it is to make the theme work out. )
FINAL TOPIC/THEME
For the theme of my film opening, I made the theme to be about a school shooting during a party that is being hosted by the school. A girl who appears conventional to the 'male gaze' theory is going to be targeted by the killer due to her appearance. She went to the bathroom and happened to pass by another girl who was also at the party. The girl then sat down and started to text her friend when suddenly gunshots were heard. She looked frantic as she tried to process the situation, then all of a sudden, blood started to go inside her cubicle. That was when the situation hit her, and she started to get up on her seat and cover her mouth in order for the killer to not hear her. When it started to get too quiet, the screen immediately showed the title card.
The reason why I choose the theme is because it tackles the topics of school shootings that are more recent during these recent times and since I am a student, I wanted to spread more awareness of the seriousness in school shootings through my film opening and how hard and emotional it can be for the victims of the school shootings.
The reason why I choose those social grouping of teenagers is because the main target of the school shooters is the students that are currently attending the school.
COSTUME PLAN
PROCESS
I went to pinterest and I searched up the things I had in mind for the main victim based on my research. For example, I searched up the black dress for the outfit that the main victim is going to wear and I went through the photos and choose the photos I think that best suited the idea/vision that me and Ara was going for. I did this for all of the things I listed below.
(Left Side)
Next, I searched up background remover websites in google and I decided to choose express.adobe.com's website. Then I selected the photos I downloaded from pinterest and clicked the 'upload your photo' button on the website and uploaded the photos. After the background of the photo's have been removed, I downloaded the new photo's.
(Right Side)
I proceeded to go to app called canva and made a new canvas to put my edited pictures in. I compiled the pictures and separated the plan for the main and background victims. I also decided to separate the results from the outfit plan, hair and makeup for the characters.
I made the images close to each other based on inspiration I found from pinterest to make the costume plan more put together.
RESULT
EXPLANATION & ANALYSIS
MAIN VICTIM
BLACK DRESS - By this black dress, the color black is often seen as attractive on most people and some women often wear black to give out a certain aura/confidence so the victim can be subject to the male gaze with this dress.
SMOKEY EYE MAKEUP - Smokey eye makeup exudes confidence and boldness. It can also give out a sort of sultry vibe which some men are attracted to.
WHITE SNEAKERS - Wearing sneakers to the party can indicate how this party is not that formal and it is at school since usually in formal parties, most girls will usually wear heals.
RED LIPSTICK - Red as I have mentioned in this blog before to convey danger. This will symbolize how the victim is going to face danger. Red lipstick is also utilized for the male gaze because most men find red lipstick more attractive seeing that it calls for their attention as it represents arousal for men.
LONG WAVY HAIR - Most female main characters have long wavy hair as their hairdo so the main victim wouldn't seem abnormal/appear less attractive with an unconventional style of hairdo for women so the victim would still appeal to the concept of the 'male gaze'.
GLASSES - This accessory can make the main character seem as more 'teenager' like because most adult women wear contacts to parties.
BACKGROUND VICTIM
WHITE DRESS - The white dress can be used to showcase the background character since the main character can be differentiated from the background victim. Colour symbolism can also be found as white is opposite to black so the background victim can look more pure compared to the main character.
PINK EYE MAKEUP - Since the main victim uses heavy and bold makeup, the background victim shouldn't outshine the main victim so their makeup should be pink since pink is soft and seen as more natural than the smokey eye makeup.
MEDIUM STRAIGHT HAIR - The background characters would use this kind of hairdo to not appear 'weird' to men since this hairstyle is also conventional for women so the background characters wouldn't be too noticeable however they still have a different hairstyle from the main victim so the main victim would look more noticeable/out of place.
LOCATION PLAN
For the location, we decided to shoot it at our school. The reason stems from our props that we are going to use, fake blood, and with that in mind, we have to put the fake blood on the floor of the bathroom. If it is in a public area or hotel, as we originally planned, the fake blood could stain the floor of the bathroom or other people might walk in as we shoot the scenes and disrupt the production process. So we decided to do it at school but during the weekends therefore no other students can disturb us and we can shoot the clips smoothly.
PROPS PLAN
For the props, the only props we decided to use is fake blood to add a dramatic effect for the film opening. By getting the fake blood, I went to 'shopee' ( an online shopping website in indonesia ) and searched for fake blood and purchased it for our film opening.
ACTOR PLAN
MAIN CHARACTER
When I signed up to be the casting director for my team, I immediately thought of my friend Nitya to be the main lead for my film opening, as I reckoned she would be the best for acting out the scenes due to her outgoing personality. I asked her in real life if she could do it, and she immediately said yes. I was relieved, then asked her if she could bring the dress through the messaging app, Whatssap and the makeup, she would do it herself on the day of the shooting.
After that, I started to work out a timeline to when Nitya and the background actor could be free, so I then started to think about who I wanted to ask to be the other character in the film's opening.

BACKGROUND CHARACTER
Other than my friend Nitya, I also thought about my friend Keira to be the background character due to her makeup skills as she is experienced in doing her own makeup.
For Keira, I asked through Whatssap if she would be wiling to be my actor. However, I mistakenly told her there were going to be two background actors when it was going to only be her. Nevertheless, we cleared up the misunderstanding in real life.
