Welcome! This page provides information about conference technology platforms and associated accessibility measures at the LD4 2024 conference. If you are a presenter at the conference, please also refer to Accessibility tips for presenters. On this page you will learn about:
Accessibility features of LD4 2024 conference platforms
Starter resources for linked data newcomers
Viewing LD4 2024 conference sessions, including captioning
Contacting LD4 2024 volunteers for help
We recommend that attendees familiarize themselves with the platforms (Zoom, Sched, and Slack) and materials that we will use at LD4 2024.
We are using four platforms:
Zoom for synchronous, interactive conference sessions
YouTube for livestreaming video of conference sessions and asynchronous playback of conference sessions
Sched for registration, schedule, and links to Zoom and session materials
Slack for asynchronous activities, including out-of-session discussion, logistics, and support
We recommend that attendees:
Download and install the most recent versions of Zoom and Slack
Review tutorials on using the technology platforms
Zoom: Zoom tutorial videos: the playlists "Zoom Meetings" and "Zoom Phone" are good introductory tutorials
Slack: Slack video tutorials
Review Zoom keyboard shortcuts and Zoom screen reader alerts as needed
Review Slack accessibility features including keyboard shortcuts, screen reader tips, zoom level, and emoji animation settings
Learn how to turn on captions in YouTube
If you are a presenter, please also refer to Accessibility tips for presenters
All synchronous LD4 2024 sessions will be composed of a combination of live announcements, live presentations, pre-recorded videos, live panels, and Q&A, primarily in English. Spoken language will be auto-captioned in English; a limited number of sessions will be live-captioned in English. See instructions for accessing captions and transcripts in Zoom for more information. Sessions posted to the LD4 YouTube channel will have an option to automatically translate the auto-generated captions to other languages. Note that this option may not work during the YouTube livestream, but will be available after the recording is finalized.
We have recommended that presenters and facilitators be visible on screen when speaking and requested that they provide slide decks and other files before or at the beginning of conference sessions whenever possible.
Most synchronous sessions will allocate time for Q&A. We will source questions in a variety of ways including from the Zoom chat, from the Zoom Q&A functionality, and by attendees using the “raise hand” feature on Zoom to ask questions live. Some sessions may use Slack for asynchronous questions and discussion as well. If none of our methods for sourcing questions work for you, please get in touch by using one of the methods listed below and we will help you to figure out the best way to participate in the Q&A.
During the conference, you can contact volunteers by sending a message in the #2024-conf-help channel on the LD4 Slack workspace.
You can contact the LD4 2024 Accessibility Subcommittee by emailing ld4-conf-help@googlegroups.com.
