Resources
This year, the 2023-24 Scholarship Workshop is offering both in-person and self-paced options. You can view the video, resources, and activities at your convenience. Watch the video below, and then take some time to complete the activities.
Life skills activity
Choose 3-5 life skills from the life skills wheel.
For each life skill you've chosen, write out:
One sentence explaining what this skill means to you.
Two examples of how 4-H has taught you this life skill.
Pro Tip: Show your reader, don't tell your reader about your life skills. What specific, action-packed examples can you share that show how you are using these life skills every day?
Cover Letter Activity
A "hook" is the first paragraph of your cover letter that draws your reader in with a story or an example that tells a bit about you as a person! (If you are applying for the Accomplishment Scholarship, you will need a cover letter!)
Scholarship judges will read hundreds of applications in a single day. For this activity, think about what makes you stand out from other 4-Hers in Indiana.
Write two unique "hook" paragraphs for your cover letter.
Share both "hooks" with a friend or family member and let them decide which one is the most interesting and represents who you are the best.
Resume Activity
Think about the 3-5 life skills you identified above.
For each life skill you've chosen, write out:
Two activities that illustrates your particular life skill
The result of this activity (what happened?)
Pro Tip: Resume examples should use power verbs (analyzed, strengthened, coordinated, etc.) backed up by specific, real-life examples or accomplishments. If you are demonstrating your leadership, you might have a resume bullet that says:
Coordinated a county-wide recycling event with over 100 participants, and diverted nearly 300 lbs. of waste from the landfill.
