Welcome
This website will document the UCM Recovery Process following the historic flooding in Montpelier in July 2023.
As with any recovery from a disaster information changes at a rapid speed. As information is received the site will be updated in what we hope is a timely manner.
Flood images can be found here.

Scope Statement: The UCM Flood Recovery Team is responsible for managing the recovery and repair of the church building at 130 Main Street. Project volunteers are highly sensitive to the sacred nature of the spaces that will be altered to achieve this goal, and will collaboratively design solutions with the lightest impact possible.
Below is a summary of the project scope, but the most detailed understanding of the project can be found in the UCM Flood Recovery Charge.
What the UCM Flood Recovery Team will accomplish:
Removal and disposal of all items and infrastructure damaged in the flood
Restore items that can be salvaged (tools, holiday fair structure, etc.)
Assess damage to building and consult with appropriate contractors and persons with specialized expertise on repairs and remediation
Identify potential funding sources
Develop and monitor budget(s)
Assign subgroups to oversee specific unique/short term activities (mold remediation; building reopening; budget; oversight of contractors, equipment replacement, etc.)
Act as a repository to the various options available to the Congregation, as we acknowledge the impact of climate change on our building and community.
How the UCM Flood RecoveryTeam will accomplish the project:
Use consensus with all stakeholders in determining the recommendations to be made to the ET and Board
Consult best practices in determining course of actions
Communicate with relevant UCM staff, committees, teams and Congregation
Communicate with the Executive Team and UCM Board regularly
Monitor the budget
Assign sub groups to work on specific goals (i.e. grant funding, kitchen remediation, etc.)
Collaborate with other stakeholders of the building prior to making recommendations to the ET/Board/Congregation
