This is a fun activity for lots of different grade levels! Your students pick an animal from the Knockout, research them and create their own baseball card or pokemon card!
Your students can use this sheet while researching animals to determine a total score. Animals with a higher score based on the four criteria are more likely to advance through the tournament.
If you've attended a Project WILD workshop and have a Project WILD guide sitting around. Here are some activities from the guide we think would go well with this year's Knockout:
Thicket Game - page 193 - Lower & Upper Elementary School - Great activity for animal adaptations, could easily be done on a school playground.
Trophic Transfer - page 151 - Upper Elementary and Middle School - Good for older age groups, discussing trophic pyramid, energy transfer, and food webs.
Limiting Factors: How Many Bears? - page 26 - Upper Elementary and Middle School - Great activity for your students to learn about one of our favorite omnivores, black bears!
Carrying Capacity - page 55 - Middle School and High School - This activity is great to go along with several of our categories to teach your students about certain factors and how scarcity will impact herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores.
If you have never attended a Project WILD workshop keep an eye out for opportunities near you in the future! If you don't receive our newsletters yet please email Julie Bless at jbless@ndow.org to get on our mailing list!
