ANYONE can participate in the knockout! This website, the associated resources, and the competition are specifically for classrooms and students, but any school (homeschool, public, private, etc.) can participate!
We first and foremost acknowledge that some of the match ups in the brackets would NEVER happen in real life. We use the Animal Score Sheet to determine a score for all animals. The score sheet rates the animals based on four criteria: Intelligence, Agility, Defensive mechanisms, and Aggressive behaviors. Generally, the animals with a higher score advances. However, there are sometimes upsets and injuries that would cause a higher scored animal to not advance.
Submit your completed classroom bracket to compete in our Classroom Bracket Competition! The brackets with the highest scores from each of our three regions wins a prize and all the glory of being the 2024 Nevada Knockout Champion!
One bracket per classroom can be submitted to the competition. They must be completely filled out and turned in prior to the first battle on October 28th.
NOPE! Single elimination tournament brackets are not easy to pick! You could have a winning bracket without picking the winner because of the scoring. The more research your students can do on the two animals that are competing at a time the more likely their pick is going to be accurate. It's ok if they don't pick the winner though! Your students hopefully learned something about some of Nevada's wildlife and are inspired to learn more!
