Materials Return

-Please place your name in a visible location outside the box

-Students can choose to accept the Camp stipend or decline it so we can use it to fund next year's camp for more students (Thank you!)

-Students do not need to return materials immediately if they want to keep exploring and doing the things they didn’t have a chance to do in the last two weeks. Arrangements can be made to return the materials at the beginning of August.

-Students are asked to return all unused materials and tools (eg if they didn't do the spectroscope challenge, they need to return the bag called spectroscope and if they did the spectroscope activity, then the form below asks they return only the "exacto knife only" as mentioned in the form)

-Students that choose not to keep the Eleego/Arduino box are asked to put together the box by finding the components that are shown on the box cover and checking they are in the box when they return it.

-The camp will offer the following stipends:

-Full stipend $300 [Full attendance or "catch up" assignment, returning student and parents feedback form and fulling up stipend request]

-Partial stipend $250 Student keeps Robotic hand and Eleego [Full attendance or "catch up" assignment, returning student and parents feedback form and fulling up stipend request]

-No stipend: Student keeps Robotic hand, Eleego kit and Pi-Top [Full attendance or "catch up" assignment, returning student and parents feedback form and fulling up stipend request]

To help you we have also color coded the items in this site. If name is in RED the item is for you to keep! If you haven't used the materials of specific activity..let's say spectroscope, we ask that you return the whole bag, but if you built it, just return the exacto knife.

Q: I would like to keep my Robotic hand and Elegoo starter kit but I am not interested in Pi Top

A: Your can keep the Robotic hand and Elegoo material and return the Pi Top and still receive $150 stipend

Q: If I am returning the Robotic hand, should I disassemble it?

A: If you are returning the Robotic hand, we ask that you disassemble the components that belong to the Eleego/Arduino set and place them there and place the unspent materials from Robotic hand in a bag and return.

Q: I was in Ohana Team but after seeing all the Robotic hand, I would like to try it too!

A: You can try building the robotic hand during the summer following the instructions and return or keep the components at the end based on explanations above. Ask to keep the Robotic hand component in the form or return. You can choose to also keep the Pi Top or not and receive a partial stipend. Matt Williams has offered to set up sessions to get you up to speed to cruise thorough it!!!

If you missed part of the camp for justifiable reasons and would like to qualify for the stipend or the technology pack follow the following steps:

If you missed a session at the 2022-Summer Physics Camp and would like to qualify for the stipend or the keep technology package, please fill out this form.

1. Submit a presentation using Google Slides, with videos and pictures etc.

2. Content included should showcase:

A) Your BIG Project (either Ohana Homestead or Robotic Hand) - Include the steps & challenges you faced (pictures, videos), and how you persevered!

B) Other Activities you completed during the Summer Physics Camp - Include what you learned from each activity (pictures, videos).

C) How has this camp impacted your future goals?

1. 1. 1. Saturday finishing online session:Saturday, June 18 we will have an online session from 3:00-5:00PM MT. This will be to finish the robotic hand if you haven’t done so, and play around with other options that we may want to do with the project.(If you think you might be interested in any of these projects please contact: Matt Williams at matthewwilliamsnm@gmail.com or 505-670-6825):
    2. Weekly Online Sessions: The coolest thing about these sessions is YOU get to decide what you would like to do. I will offer suggestions, but if there are a few students who have a preference for other projects then we will do those projects. We can adjust the schedule as necessary, but let’s start with Wednesdays 1:00-4:00 PM MT. These are online and available to anyone who has the elegoo kit and a laptop.(If you think you might be interested in any of these projects please contact: Matt Williams at matthewwilliamsnm@gmail.com or 505-670-6825):

Redo the robotic hand using a servo motor controller. We will learn I2C communications (common for connecting two Arduinos or connecting an Arduino to a Raspberry Pi).
Learn Python coding. We will likely use the most modern interface to python coding (called Jupyter Notebook). We will learn basic commands and likely play around with image manipulation (do you know how to smooth or sharpen or crop an image with code?

      1. These meeting will likely be at Lowe’s hardware in Espanola on Sundays 1:00-4:00, so it is open to any students who can attend in person. Again, I will offer suggestions, but the ultimate project will be decided by the students.

Spider Robot - this is a quadraped robot that uses servo motors to walk. A minimal body will come from a kit, but we will be building and coding this from scratch.
Continue the evolution of my “seek and destroy” robot. We will rebuild the chassis of the robot and add a video camera and machine learning capability to this robot. We will need to learn the Linux OS and Python for this project.
Learn to solder! We will make colorful bracelets that are fun for everyone! This is only a one day session and will be included with any of the other projects. Your soldering abilities will likely be used in the other projects.
Learn to program LIDAR - this is a 360 degree proximity range sensor that will also go on the seek and destroy robot. Super cool. We will also need to learn Linux OS and Python for this project.
