Establish a purpose. What problem do you want to solve, and why?
Research your topic. Gather information to help guide your invention. Has anyone else invented something to solve the problem? Is your invention different than anything that has been made before?
Gather the materials you will need to build your invention. Record all of your materials (with exact amounts if possible) on a piece of paper or in a notebook. Re/Upcycling in encouraged!
Test your invention. Does it work? Record data to show that you invention does or does not work to solve the problem. Determine how you can modify your invention to improve its function. (Note: your invention does not have to be successful!)
Make a poster to explain your invention! Your poster should include the following
Title
Purpose
Background Research
Materials (include amount AND cost) and Procedure
Pictures or diagrams of how your invention works
Discussion of Results
Conclusion
Prepare a demo! (optional, but fun!)
Show your audience how your invention works! Be prepared to explain your design, how you chose your materials, and why or how you chose which problem to solve.
Remember that table space is also available to showcase key observations that cannot be included on your poster.
