ASTC Admin Responsibilities

Local Organiser's Responsibilities

1. Secure a suitable venue for all of the respective participants.

2. Secure an arbitering team well in advance of the deadline and have it approved by Hughston Parle.

3. Submit qualifying school team names to Hughston Parle at the registration link.

4. Submit team lists to Hughston Parle at the registration link.

5. Distribute livechess.aunz.net usernames to their teams provided by Hughston Parle or Peter Tsai.

6. Ensure that all participants, arbiters, and yourselves have read the regulations.

7. Ensure that their teams are well-acquainted with the livechess.aunz.net prior to the tournament.

8. Ensure that each of their teams have a laptop to use during the tournament.

9. Ensure that their venue has suitable internet connection.

10. For States using schools as venues, ensure that you either 1. Have successfully used the livechess.aunz.net software on the school Wi-Fi; or 2. Have alternate internet connection available, such as a modem or sufficient data for personal hotspot.

11. Coordinate for teams to be online 1hr before the commencement of the first round.

12. The playing area must be designated by the Organiser and communicated to the players and Arbiter.

13. Submit team list to the Chief Arbiter at least 15 minutes before each round, otherwise the 1st 4 players in the team list will be used in the pairing of the round.

14. Team List and results must be entered via the google spreadsheet for each round.

15. Communicate with the Chief Arbiter, Chief Organiser and Chief Technical Officer via the Zoom Meeting during the tournament.


Local Arbiter's Responsibilities

1. The arbiters shall see that the Chess Rules are observed.

2. A physical chess board and pieces cannot be used during play.

3. Players must raise their hand (seek Arbiter approval) if they need to go to the toilet

4. At least one Arbiters must be in the playing area at all times and observe the games

5. To ensure fair play by observing the following:

a) Players only have https://livechess.aunz.net/ and http://play.livechess.aunz.net/ in separate windows/tabs opened

b) No other electronic equipment is used by the players (unless approved by the Arbiter)

c) In case of an emergency (loss of internet connection) a mobile phone hotspot may be used to connect the player with the chess application in order to continue with their game.

d) No access to any chess engines during play.

6. Be available to answer any chess rule questions from the players

7. Ensure players report their result to the Arbiter at the completion of their game

8. Coordinate with the Chief Arbiter any decisions that might be required (eg pause clock, apply penalty, loss of connection) via the Zoom Meeting
