So far:
Last year started on the drops app and Maori made easy.
This year Te Wananga Level 1 & 2 course.
Reading: Children's books from school library. Ray Harlow's Grammer book. Hemi Kelly's phrase a day and word a day. Have just purchased six more books online. I will upload a photo of my collection when they arrive.
Writing: I try to write sentences using given structures. I code in python and scratch. I create slide shows. I constantly write in my exercise books.
Listening: Maori radio, podcasts.
Watching: All sorts on line and Maori tv.
Speaking: Talk to myself when doing household chores. Read out loud heaps, especially the children's books and the sentences I create.
When it gets hard, make it easy by watching children's tv and reading very easy children's books. The drops app is mindless, and really works to build vocab.
Goal setting: Write the date I hope to complete pages in Maori made easy. Aim to complete the drops app word list and move on to consolidation. Have routines, like two children's books swapped each Wednesday. Everyday do some reading, writing, listening, watching and speaking.
My Mentors are in real life at Te Wananga AND online via youtube and social media. Grant Whitbourne, Hemi Kelly, Stacey and Scotty Morrison, No Frills Te Reo (I can not find his name). I do not have to personally interact with the online mentors in order to learn from them. Technology has changed the way we learn. This would not have been possible when I was young.
Reflection: I am actually doing this. Finally. It is awesome to be learning. I am not too old to learn a new language. I thought I was hopeless at language learning when I was young. Now I know I just need time, patience and a decent plan.
