Opening ceremonies included the Golden Gate Titan Jr. R.O.T.C who presented the Colors. Gary Tincy sang the National Anthem and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Pat Laird made some opening remarks, followed by Jason Cooper of Home Base who told us a little about the Program we are supporting. Then Jake Myers sent the golfers off to the course.
Events during the day included golf, of course, but much more. Throughout the day, items were available in the Silent Auction, Jell-O shots were "given" out on the 15th hole. Jake and Evan were on the 18th showing us their driving skills. And the Jr. R.O.T.C. Cadets were on the 8th hole tee doing push-ups.
The closing event had everything. It started off with songs recognizing the branches of military service. We heard from Senator Rick Scott with the reading of a letter. Home Base was brought home by one of the vets who participated in the Program. District 1 County Commissioner reflected on his 24 years in the military and the value of Home Base to our vets and therefore our community. Jake announced the golf winners and Joe Johnston closed the event with the playing of Taps.
