The idea for the 2019 party happened on a beach in Cleveland, OH when a group of college friends were together for a wedding. They were playing a game they made up called "Clutch" when they had the idea to bring their friends and families together in 2019.
They stuck with the idea, holding an annual planning call to keep it alive. As time went on new people got involved and the committee changed but momentum never waned.
Some of the more outlandish pieces of the plan, such as holding the party where the equator and prime meridian meet, morphed into more realistic details over time and eventually planning kicked into high gear.
Throughout, the party provided something fun to look forward, and lots of laughs along the way, as well as a way to stay connected and a platform for building new relationships.
When the party finally happened it was the culmination of years of collaboration, fun, and friendship and it definitely lived up to the hype.
Below, a slide from the 2013 planning meeting shows the evolution of thinking about the party location. At one point cities with 2019 residents were the focus.
