The workshop attendees will have the opportunity to share their own research during through 1) poster presentations and poster teaser talks and 2) the student & early career mentoring program.

To be considered for the opportunity, please complete and submit the following form by Friday, October 4th, 2019 at 11:59pm (Eastern). Submitting an application does not guarantee your acceptance to the program; however, we will do our best to accommodate as many applicants as possible. Notifications will be sent out by October 11. We would like to invite you to apply to present your research during poster presentations and poster teaser flash talks. We anticipate having space for approximately 16 participants. Abstracts can be either identical to the ones submitted to the main CDS conference or completely new. Submitting an application does not guarantee your acceptance, but we will do our best to accommodate all applicants.

Presentation Formats:

• Poster
  • Schedule: Poster presenters will present their posters during a 60-minute Poster Presentation session scheduled between 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM. Individual posters will be displayed throughout the workshop.
  • Poster Size: Please follow the CDS guideline for making poster presentations.
  • Set Up: Presenters should set up their posters during the pre-conference registration (Thursday, 10/17, 8:45 AM - 9:00 AM)
• Poster Teaser Flash Talks
  • What is a poster teaser flash talk? It is a concise one-minute talk using a single slide (1 minute MAX, ONLY 1 slide). The purpose is to let the audience know what you will be presenting and encourage the audience to come and see your poster. Please focus only on the main goal and the major findings of your work. More detailed information can be provided during the poster session. We encourage all poster presenters to participate, but flash talks are optional and you can indicate your preference when you submit your abstract.
  • Guidelines:
    • Presentation Slides: Presenters should prepare only one slide to communicate key findings.
    • Slide Size: Please use 16:9 slide ratio
    • Schedule: The poster teaser flash talk is scheduled between 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM.

The Student & Early Career Mentoring Program will take place during the 2019 CDS Pre-Conference on Digital Media & Cognitive Development. This program aims to connect student and post-doc attendees with scholars and professionals who are successfully engaged in research and practice related to digital media and cognitive development. We plan to organize small and informal meetings for mentor-mentee matches to participate in an open discussion about the challenges and opportunities, to share tips and resources, and to engage in professional networking.

Program Details:

• Requirement: One required 30-minute meeting during the lunch break at the pre-conference
  • Time: Thursday, October 17, 2019 12:15 PM — 01:00 PM
• Format: Small groups consisting of one mentor and 1-3 mentees (student and postdoc attendees).
• Optional meeting(s): Additional meetings are encouraged but optional.
  • We encourage mentors to
    • attend any presentations their mentees give at the pre-conference, if possible.
    • utilize the coffee breaks (10:30 AM - 11:00 AM; 1:30 PM — 2:30 PM) for work-in-progress mentoring, if additional time is needed.
    • make an effort to introduce your mentees to other attendees of the pre-conference.
  • We encourage mentees to
    • attend any presentations their mentors give at the pre-conference, if possible.
    • [Optional] bring a 1-page handout to share (i.e., a mini poster or a summary of research findings)
    • utilize the optional sit-down with mentors during the coffee breaks (10:30 AM - 11:00 AM; 1:30 PM — 2:30 PM) which should be arranged during the lunch.
• Suggestions for mentoring activities:
  • Networking: Mentors can offer professional networking opportunities to mentors by introducing their mentees to other attendees of the pre-conference.
