Earth Week Celebration 2017 hosted in partnership with City of Bothell and Recology CleanScapes


SATURDAY APRIL 15TH

10:00-1:00 PM - Restoration Project with with Friends of the North Creek Forest

Location: NORTH CREEK FOREST

Join us to help restore North Creek Forest by removing invasive plants, spreading mulch, and planting native species. Friends of North Creek Forest will provide tools, gloves, snacks, and hot refreshment to participants. No prior experience is required! To register, please visit https://tinyurl.com/uwbncf


MONDAY APRIL 17TH

11:00-1:00PM, 6:00-8:00PM - Movie Mondays! Food Inc.

Location: ARC

Come watch Food Inc., an exposing film regarding the true story behind the food industry and its affect on the average consumer, all with the permission of the USDA and FDA

1:00-3:00 PM - Uplands Restoration

5:45-6:45 PM - Valve Turner Speaking Tour: Civil Disobedience for Direct Climate Action

Location: DISC 252

Please join us on for a discussion with the Valve Turners, five climate activists arrested for turning off pipelines bringing tar sands oil into the US. Film screening to follow (7-9pm). Film TBA.

TUESDAY APRIL 18TH

9:15-10:15AM- Garbage Sort

Location: PROMENADE LAWN

How much waste on campus could we divert from the landfill if sorted properly? Find out by participating in this garbage sort!

10:00-2:00PM- Interactive Soil Lab

Location: Cascadia Trailer (Next to Food Forest)

The Interactive Soil Lab is an opportunity for interesting people to learn how soils are made. Participants will also learn the different processes that make soil what it is. With a better understanding, we will hopefully stop treating our soil like dirt.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 19TH

9:00-11:30AM - Planting with Grounds Team

Location: FOOD FOREST

Get involved with the grounds team in their efforts to get the Food Forest ready for the growing season by planting veggie starts! No sign-up necessary, just meet at the Food Forest whenever you have time.

12:00-2:00PM - Reduce, Reuse, Recreate

Location: SPORTS FIELD (Inclement Weather Backup Location: UW1 OVERHANG

This DIY-themed fair is hosted by UW Bothell Recreation and Wellness. Join the walk-up workshop to create your own cleaning products from recycled materials with Rec & Well. There will also be a clothing swap for students to recycle their gently used clothes.

12:00-3:00PM - Sustainability Concert and Community Celebration

Location: SPORTS FIELD

The UW Bothell Campus Events Board and Cascadia College Cascadia Activities Board are hosting a Sustainability Concert! Get ready to jam out to a solar powered, sustainability-activist alternative rock band called Trapdoor Social! Also featured, 29 Community Partners showcasing how they incorporate sustainability into their daily work! See the event information page (under the Thursday tab) for a complete list.


FRIDAY APRIL 21ST

12:00-2:00PM - Garden Party

Location: CAMPUS GARDEN

Join us in the UW Bothell Campus Garden for a potluck and work party! Assist in planting, harvesting, weeding, or turning compost as needed in the campus garden space between the sports field and the north parking garage.

Meet the Campus Garden Committee and get involved!

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM - UWB Hackathon Series: Garden Innovation Challenge

Location: ARC and CAMPUS GARDEN

Help us create a garden of the future by participating in the first Hackathon in the UW Bothell Hackathon series! The From tech-ing out the garden to rethinking soil infiltration and irrigation, help us design this new community space. The Hackathon is put on by a UW Bothell student committee made up of a collaboration between several groups and units on campus. Check out their website for more information and contact info.

5:00-8:00PM - Sustainability Networking and Job Fair (Hosted by City of Bothell)

Location: BOTHELL CITY HALL

City of Bothell is hosting a job fair with local, sustainability careers in our community. This event will also feature resume workshop and clothing swap!


SATURDAY APRIL 22ND EARTH DAY

Happy Earth Day! Celebrate by participating in a restoration project of your choice, spending time in nature, or joining the Seattle March for Science!

Environmental Film Festival

A 3 week long evening film series showing environmental films on the UW Bothell campus. From April 10th-April 28th, Professor Martha Groom's Environmental Film class will be screening movies and discussions on their topics on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:45-9:15 PM in DISC 252. Please see the detailed event info tab for more information on each film showing during Earth Week!
