A 21st century immigration system must address the right of a nation to enforce its borders and the need to ensure community safety. Border security must also take into account the relationships and trade that occur across our borders. During this plenary, experts on border policy, trade, and business will discuss how to ensure border security on both sides of the borders while maintaining important relationships that facilitate trade and tourism that are mutually beneficial to our communities and our people.
11:10 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.: Growing American Jobs through a Balanced System
The prosperity of all Americans is linked to the success of our nation’s economy. Leading business leaders and industry experts agree that having immigrants in our workforce is key to the continued growth of our economy. Are immigrants on employment visas meeting a labor shortage or taking jobs from Americans? Do these immigrants have the skills they need to meet the needs of employers and help our nation’s economy thrive?
12:15 p.m. -1:45 p.m.: Lunch and Keynote Address
1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.: A Compassionate America: Resettling Refugees and Welcoming Immigrants in Times of Conflict
This plenary discussion will examine global migration flows, our existing refugee resettlement program and the role of our nation’s immigration system. Is America’s immigration system prepared for the economic, security and social challenges of the modern world? How can we ensure that the unrealized capital of new Americans is tapped to provide opportunity in the hands of striving Americans?
2:45 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Break
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: A Road Forward in an Anxious Time
This conversation will focus on ideas for finding a way forward. Understanding America’s cultural and economic anxiety over immigration is crucial to advancing practical immigration solutions. What should be done to create a constructive environment for legislation so that the Trump administration and Congress work together to forge a 21st century immigration system?

In the evening following the convening, we will be hosting our 17th annual Keepers of the American Dream reception, where we will be honoring important leaders who embody the spirit of immigrant achievement and the American dream, contribute significantly to the well-being of immigrants in America and enhance our appreciation of immigrants and the immigrant tradition.
