Grade 1. 

Play the following exercises correctly

Exercise (Scales)

• Exercise 1.  Page 19

• Exercise 2. Page 19

• Exercise 3.  Page 20

• Exercise 4.  Page 20

• Exercise 5.  Page 20

• Demonstrate Reading/Understanding of the 5 Bugle notes on the Musical Stave

• Hold a note clearly for 10 seconds

Calls  (to be played correctly and NOT LESS than minimum tempos)

• Fall-In

• Reveille

• Explain when each of the calls above is used 

Tunes

• Be able to sing (da-da-da) 2 bugle tunes from start to finish, from the following options (Shamrock, Stedfast, Alexandria, Old Number One)

Other

• Give a brief history of the bugle. 

• Show Knowledge of Care and Maintenance of Instrument

• Demonstrate correct Bugler at-ease, at Attention, Band Ready, Band Steady, Fall-Out

• Be able to remove the bugle cord and to reattach it correctly.

Grade 2.

Hold Grade 1 and ...

Play the following exercises correctly

• Exercises 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

• Understand musical terms on page 18

• Demonstrate Reading/Understanding of a Bugle call/tune from the Bugle handbook

• Hold a note clearly for 15 seconds

Calls  (to be played correctly and NOT LESS than minimum tempos)

• First Dinner Call

• Second Dinner Call

• Retreat

• Officers 

• General Salute

• Explain when each of the calls above is used 

Tunes

• Play the Repeat/Main parts for 2 tunes, from the following options (Shamrock, Stedfast, Alexandria, Swingmarch, Old Number One)

On Parade

• Demonstrate during practices, correct marching and in time with the band

• Attend at least one Parade/Engagement where the Band Performs

Grade 3.      [Successful Completion of Grade 3 will see Bugle upgraded to a Silver Bugle]

Hold Grade 2 and ...

Play the following exercises correctly

• Exercises 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 29, 20

• Demonstrate Reading/Understanding of an unfamiliar Bugle call/tune from the Bugle handbook

• Hold a note clearly for 20 seconds
