Decodable text & spelling words

Each week, your student will come home with a blue decodable text passage and a word list stapled together. These words and passages will focus on a sound spelling pattern that we are learning. Please have your student read you the passage once a night, every night. This will help your student master the sound spelling pattern and become a more fluent reader. In addition, please study the words on the list with your student so they are prepared for the spelling test on Friday!

Let Grow

This year in first grade, we will participate in the Let Grow Project. This is a homework assignment that empowers students to go home and do something new, with their parents permission but without their parents help. Each month will focus on a different theme that we will discuss at school. Then, students must select a project based on that theme that they can complete at home, totally on their own. Each month, your student will bring home a "Let Grow" handout in their take home folder. It will be yours & your student's job to plan a project. Use the "project ideas list" to help brainstorm, then pick a day that your student will complete their project. Once they've completed their task, they can answer the reflection questions on the back of the page. We will be discussing each monthly project at school, so make sure that your student is prepared to talk about their experience.
