These lessons build off of what students learn in the previous grades and prepares them for what they may learn in the next grades.
Raven Writes Lessons were created by Sealaska Heritage Institute. These lessons are specific to the Juneau area, but with coordination with the cultural department they can be adapted for Sitka.
In the spring time, Sitka and other parts of Southeast Alaska witness the great return of the herring. This vibrant season is marked by the simultaneous spawning and harvesting of herring. In this unit, students explore the life cycle and importance of herring while making meaningful connections to English language arts and math standards.
