Em fins da segunda década deste século XXI, parece que, assim como Walter Benjamin no início do seu século XX, podemos ainda ouvir, soterradas sob as capas de ferro e concreto, de sessões de cinema e festivais de música, dos programas de domingo e cafés do fim de tarde, o eco de vozes emudecidas. Os ventos do progresso ainda sopram, os semeadores do progresso ainda lançam as sementes de mísseis a fim de que o novo do velho se erija sobre as formas atrasadas da vida não produtiva, não cambiável. Haussmannização do mundo, abertura de vias comerciais, canais marítimos, rotas aéreas, globalização, o capital pode viajar conforme os humores do mercado, e as pessoas não o podem conforme a sua fome.

É preciso um conceito de história que faça justiça à tradição dos oprimidos – às vozes emudecidas, às fomes não satisfeitas. É preciso, para isso, uma memória critica, eticamente comprometida com os restos da história. Nosso I Congresso Internacional Walter Benjamin: barbárie e memória ética, de 26 a 28 de setembro de 2018, quer possibilitar a todas e todos os pesquisadores e interessados na obra do filósofo berlinense um espaço de profícuos debates em favor de uma filosofia que pense nos tempos-agora (Jetztzeit) que irrompem nas barricadas, nos pneus queimados, nas greves, em cada gesto de rebelião e redenção dentro e fora das salas de aula e nas poesias.

O evento é uma promoção do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Filosofia e da Escola de Humanidades da PUCRS, e está sendo realizado com o apoio financeiro da CAPES e do Centro de Estudos Europeus e Alemães (CDEA) de Porto Alegre, e com o apoio e parceria do Instituto Goethe Porto Alegre.

By the end of the second decade of this 21st century, it seems that, like Walter Benjamin at the beginning of his 20th century, we can still hear, buried beneath iron and concrete covers, movie sessions and music festivals, Sunday and late afternoon cafes, the echo of the silenced voices. The winds of progress still blow, the sowers of progress still cast the missile seeds so that the new of the old rises upon the backward forms of unproductive, unchangeable life. Haussmannization of the world, opening of commercial routes, maritime channels, air routes, globalization, the capital can travel according to the humors of the market, and people can not according to their hunger.

It is necessary a concept of history that would make justice to the tradition of the oppressed - to the silenced voices, to the unfulfilled hunger. This requires a critical memory, ethically committed to the rest of history. Our 1st International Walter Benjamin Conference: barbarism and ethical memory, that will take place between September 26th and 28th, wants to make it possible for all researchers and those interested in the work of the Berliner philosopher to have a space of fruitful debate, in favor of a philosophy that thinks about the now-time (Jetztzeit) that erupt in barricades, burnt tires, strikes, in every gesture of rebellion and redemption in and out of classrooms and in poetry.

The event is a promotion of the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy and of the School of Humanities of PUCRS, with financial support of CAPES and of the Center for European and German Studies (CDEA) of Porto Alegre, and with the support and partnership of the Goethe Institut Porto Alegre.
