Why does Julia love Winston?
She confesses her love to Winston because as soon as she saw his face she knew that he was against the party . She wanted to take her chance with someone who is also against the party, like her. This is evident when she says "It was something in your face. I thought I’d take a chance. I’m good at spotting people who don’t belong. As soon as I saw you I knew you were against THEM" (Orwell 154)
How does Newspeak limit peoples ability to think?
The use of the new langauge newspeak limits peoples ability to think because it is a new language where they are slowly removing words and making it more broad. This makes it hard for people to express themselves. This is evident when Syme says "Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thought crime literally impossible, because there will be no
words in which to express it" (Orwell 67)
