Anika Aldamuy Denise is the author of Planting Stories: The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré; Starring Carmen!; Lights, Camera, Carmen!; and many other celebrated books for young readers. Her stories are often about family, and reflect her bicultural heritage and upbringing. In her nonfiction work, Anika strives to illuminate the important contributions of influential Latinas, so that readers of all backgrounds, but especially those in the Latinx community, are inspired to dare greatly and share their gifts with the world. Her forthcoming nonfiction project is Rosita Rising, a picture book biography of legendary Puerto Rican actress and singer Rita Moreno, illustrated by Leo Espinosa. Alexandra Villasante has always loved telling stories—though not always with words. She has a BFA in Painting and an MA in Combined Media (that’s art school speak for making work out of anything). Emma Otheguy is the author of the bilingual picture book Martí’s Song for Freedom (Lee & Low, 2017) about Cuban poet and national hero José Martí, as well as the forthcoming Pope Francis: Builder of Bridges (Bloomsbury, 2018) and Silver Meadows Summer (Knopf, 2019). She is now a Ph.D. Candidate in History at New York University, focusing on Spain and colonial Latin America. Emma has held fellowships and grants from the American Historical Association, the Council of Library and Information Resources, and Humanities New York. Although Hilda was born and raised in New York City, she did not speak English until she started school. Her parents are originally from the Dominican Republic, and they always spoke in Spanish to Hilda and her three sisters.
After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, Hilda headed to Philadelphia to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in French and Spanish Literatures. She received her law degree from Harvard Law School and then returned to the Philadelphia area, where she currently works as an attorney.

M. García was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She moved to New York where she studied creative writing at The New School, worked in publishing, and now lives under a pile of to-be-read books. Her debut novel, Even If the Sky Falls, from Katherine Tegen books (an imprint of Harper Collins) is out now. Her second novel, The Resolutions, hit shelves 11.13.18!
Elizabeth García was born and raised in Guatemala. She moved to New York when she was in her teens. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from NYACK College in New York and received her Master of Library Science Degree from Queens College in New York. She is a former Community Library Manager for the Queens Library System in New York City. Elizabeth enjoys reading and writing. One of her children’s books El Viaje de Lucita / Lucita’s Journey has been published in Spanish and a bilingual Spanish/English format. Her latest book Resilience: A Personal Memoir was published in 2018.
