A Persona Presentation and Round Table Discussion (2 PM Breakout 1)
- Personas, narratives, and roles: a newcomer’s exploration of ‘identity’ in the SCA
- Led by Dáire Ó Lochlainn
Who I am in the SCA? Am I the ‘historical personage’ that my ‘researched persona’ implies; am I the ‘actor’ of that ‘persona’s narrative’; or, am I my thinly-veiled modern self, undertaking ‘roles’ in service of ‘The Dream’? Allow me to introduce and examine these concepts and then join us in a round table discussion with both newcomers and old hands, to try and answer these, and other, persona-related questions.
Maitre Philippe de St. Denis, OL for persona development, will bring over thirty years of SCA experience to the round table.
Diverse Perspectives on the Crusades (3 PM Breakout 2)
- taught by Brother Isidore
Crusades being odd from a military/strategic context. The role of crusades in the social fabric of Europe. Crusades as part of long-term Christian-Muslim conflict and if “Christian-Muslim conflict” is even a historically useful term.
