Here is a Graphic Organizer adapted for use with a PowerPoint, that students use to learn content based in the Origins of the Renaissance, this helps them organize the information and to structure their deep learning so that later in the unit they are able to complete final assessment and expand on their thinking. Since this is built for middle schoolers, I also used the organizer to provide them with an SEL break, some student examples are below. This helps maintain their pace of work and a well-rounded learning environment that involves both content and rest.
Off to the right are the directions given to student via their Chromebooks and their scaffolded example for which they can use to base their own letter upon. This assessment engaged them in higher order thinking of analysis and creation, ones that they need to use both for their assessments at the state level and in each classroom, they are in during their year. I have below a student who excelled in the letter writing task and received their feedback via canvas made rubric that is also listed below.
Here this student was engaged in their work and was able to complete all work while also completing the color work.
Here this student was also engaged with content and took their time with the color work, engaged deeply with the content.
During this lesson we as a class broke down previous knowledge that students had about their work in Social Class. We then took a wholistic approach in looking directly into where women were during this time. They know so much about the hierarchy of social class in medieval Europe but where were women? During the lesson they were asked to build, analyze, and discuss via edtech how the artists Artemisia Gentileschi helped us see the intricacies of the social class in the Renaissance. Below are two student copies of the exercise, and the completed Padlet below.
