I, too, was annoyed by all of the "weird" holidays popping up in my calendar, so I unsubscribed from Apple's "US Holidays" calendar. I found one that hits all of the "big" holidays, including Easter and other Christian holidays that people who aren't necessarily Christian or Catholic still like to see on their calendars.

I have noticed this too. Why are these non-US Holidays included on a calendar named as such? The calendar should either be renamed (and I'll unsubscribe to it) or these other additions should be compiled in some other calendar.

I understand that what I wanted to know was why they changed to old list to add all the others. Apparently the PC police have taken over Apple. I have built my own repeating holidays for now. Once I figure out how to create a calendar file I will upload it to Caldav.

turaloo how did you get screen shots? ok...

It WAS us holidays (or your locale specific for UK, FR, etc)

Then it became "Show Holidays calendar" but.. if you already had US Holidays selected, the label doesn't seem to update until you cleared the checkbox! So it says US Holidays while giving general holidays. (Thus everyone's confusion)

It is very possible that it is being renamed again, or removed entirely, and you are seeing the effects of this. We won't know until later

That's not true. I have several 11 of my own calendars and this one that I can't delete. I will click on "hide all" and then select the calendar that I want to view. Now instead of just clicking on "show all" to show my 11 calendars, I have to now also click on the holidays calendar to uncheck it. I know this is a first world problem, but again, my point is that we should be allowed to delete the calendar completely from our iphones/ipads.

BTW, Before February 22 Apple's US Holidays calendar was just what you are asking for. But there was a huge outcry on social media about the fact that Easter was not on it, so Apple capitulated and added back religious holidays.

However, why would you think Eid al-Fitr is more important overseas (unless you mean the Middle East), when there are over 3 million Muslims in this country. Some of us actually like knowing when people we work with or know in our town are celebrating their important holidays.

Most holidays can be easily repeated (first monday in Sept). However, things like Easter which are based on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox will have to be manually updated every year.

"The Twelve Days of Christmas" is an English Christmas carol. A classic example of a cumulative song, the lyrics detail a series of increasingly numerous gifts given to the speaker by their "true love" on each of the twelve days of Christmas (the twelve days that make up the Christmas season, starting with Christmas Day).[1][2] The carol, whose words were first published in England in the late eighteenth century, has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 68. A large number of different melodies have been associated with the song, of which the best known is derived from a 1909 arrangement of a traditional folk melody by English composer Frederic Austin.

"The Twelve Days of Christmas" is a cumulative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verses. There are twelve verses, each describing a gift given by "my true love" on one of the twelve days of Christmas. There are many variations in the lyrics. The lyrics given here are from Frederic Austin's 1909 publication that established the current form of the carol.[3] The first three verses run, in full, as follows:

A similar cumulative verse from Scotland, "The Yule Days", has been likened to "The Twelve Days of Christmas" in the scholarly literature.[20] It has thirteen days rather than twelve, and the number of gifts does not increase in the manner of "The Twelve Days". Its final verse, as published in Chambers, Popular Rhymes, Fireside Stories, and Amusements of Scotland (1842), runs as follows:[29]

The twelve days in the song are the twelve days starting with Christmas Day to the day before Epiphany (6 January). Twelfth Night is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "the evening of January 5th, the day before Epiphany, which traditionally marks the end of Christmas celebrations".[43]
