Products from 2019

The first Tenth Grade Summit Day took place at the Eretz Israel Museum from January 9 to 21, 2019. Students experienced a number of exciting activities. They were grouped together with students from other schools all over the country, giving them the opportunity to make new friends, and learn things they have in common and ways that they are different.

Their first impression of the World Press Photo Exhibit was through a treasure hunt, in which they were asked to find a photo which was an example of Sports Diplomacy, a photo that makes them think of home, and other things.

The tour of the exhibit this year was highlighted in a couple of ways. First of all, the tenth graders got to present photo essays in the exhibit which they had studied in class and prepared to present, giving them a feeling of empowerment. Second, the tour was guided by twelfth grade Diplomacy students, who studied and prepared in advance. The tenth graders were attentive and respectful, as they saw the possibilities for themselves in the future, looking at the twelfth graders as role models.

Following the exhibit, students debriefed, discussed, and debated in groups what they had experienced in the powerful photo exhibit. Finally, they had the opportunity to create their own photo essays in small groups. They were encouraged to be creative and to have fun. On this site, as you view the products of each day, you can see that is certainly what they did. I have no doubt you will find it inspiring, as you see what issues 15 and 16-year-olds are concerned with.
